SAN DIEGO — Business owners across San Diego County are readying to push back against a potential new round of Coronavirus restrictions.The county could reach the state’s most restrictive purple tier on Tuesday, meaning restaurants, gyms, nail salons and estheticians would all have to stop indoor service.Business owners are now calling this a fight for survival.“We’ve been in the red since March, so the bleeding’s got to stop somewhere,” said Ben Clevenger, who owns Lakeside’s Eastbound Bar and Grill.Clevenger has reduced his staff from 45 to about 15, and he’s now taking shifts running food and cooking in the kitchen. It’s the only way the restaurant can survive amid social distancing restrictions inside, and 100 degree weather outside.“Never do I mind getting my hands dirty, but I would much rather have an employee doing it because it’s money in their pocket,” Clevenger said.The county is on track to move into the state’s most restrictive tier of coronavirus restrictions on Tuesday - largely because of an increase in cases at San Diego State University.On Monday, the county Board of Supervisors will meet behind closed doors to decide whether to take action against the state. Among California’s 10 most populous counties, San Diego is the only one with virus cases low enough to meet state standards for reopening theaters, museums and gyms, and resuming indoor dining — all with limited capacity to provide for physical distancing. San Diego County is listed in the state's second tier, or "substantial" tier, for cities reporting four to seven daily coronavirus cases per 100,000 residents and a positive test rate between 5% and 8%.As of Thursday, San Diego’s case rate is 5.8 and the testing positivity percentage is 3.8%. SAN DIEGO (AP) — The U.S. Marine Corps says two Marines were shot during a live-fire training exercise at a Southern California base involving hundreds of troops.The military says both were airlifted Sunday from the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center at the Twentynine Palms base east of San Diego to an unnamed California hospital.2nd Lt. Samuel Banks says one Marine was later released and the other remains hospitalized in serious condition.He says the Marines are stationed at Twentynine Palms. Sam’s Club is going to hire 2,000 seasonal workers to aid with the upcoming holiday season.In a press release, the retail company said they are looking for extra help as they gear up for more days of deals and an influx in shoppers.“We take our cues directly from our members, and they’re telling us they’re ready for and excited about holiday shopping this year,” said Megan Crozier, Chief Merchandising Officer, Sam’s Club in the news release. “Our merchants are making this holiday extra special for our members across categories – from food and holiday décor to one-of-a-kind gifts – with more high-quality items at amazing members-only values, and special experiences they can’t find anywhere else.”The positions will be in their fulfillment and distribution centers.Sam’s Club said the positions would be full-time. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 66-year-old man was hospitalized Saturday morning with wounds he suffered in a stabbing in the Mira Mesa neighborhood of San Diego and a 19-year-old suspect was in custody.The victim was walking in the area of Westview Parkway and Galvin Avenue about 9:10 p.m. Friday when he got into an argument with the suspect, who stabbed him three times, then ran away through the parking lot of a business, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.The victim was stabbed in the chest and suffered cuts to his stomach and finger. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of non life threatening injuries, Heims said.Police searched the area and located the suspect, identified as Dejon Heard, and took him into custody, Heims said.Anyone who witnessed the stabbing was asked to call San Diego police Northeastern Division detectives at 858-538-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580- 8477. 929
