BEIJING, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- China will strengthen exchanges and cooperation with its neighboring countries to further deepen their mutual understanding and friendship, a senior Chinese diplomat said Thursday.Hu Zhengyue, Chinese assistant foreign minister, said China supports social and cultural exchanges between different countries on the basis of respecting each other's tradition, social system and developing mode.The recent years have seen dynamic exchanges between China and its neighboring countries and their cooperation has been broadened and enriched, Hu said in a Foreign Ministry media release."In 2009 alone, there are about 21.7 million visitors coming from northeast, southeast and south Asian countries," he said."Besides, more than 160,000 foreign students studying in China in 2009 were from Asian countries," he added.China attaches great importance to enhancing communication and exchanges between young people of Asian countries, and has established young people's regular exchanging mechanism with Japan, India, Vietnam, Mongolia and Pakistan, he said.

NAIROBI, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki met here Friday with chen Zhili, vice chairwoman of the Standing Committee of National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature with both promising to make efforts to enhance bilateral ties.During the meeting, Chen expressed appreciation to President Kibaki and the Kenya government for the pivotal role they played in brokering peace in Sudan and the horn of Africa.Chen assured President Kibaki that China would provide the necessary support for peace and stability in the horn of Africa."Kenya, as a neighbor and the guarantor to the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) on Sudan, requires the support and not condemnation from the international community in her efforts to broker peace in Sudan," Chen said.The Chinese official also congratulated President Kibaki and other coalition government partners for the passage and promulgation of the country's new constitution.She thanked Kenya's support for the One-China policy.The two also exchanged views on enhancing Kenya-China cooperation under the China-Africa Cooperation Forum (FOCAC).President Kibaki hailed the cordial bilateral and trade relations between the two countries which have continued to flourish through exchange visits at all levels.The Kenyan president particularly expressed gratitude to China for its immense contribution to the African country's infrastructure development over the past years.Kibaki noted with appreciation that China is today one of the leading bilateral donors to Kenya's infrastructure development with a cumulative official development assistance reaching 36.7 billion Shillings.China and Kenya have signed agreements and MOUs in various fields including technical and cultural cooperation, trade, education, health, energy, agriculture and cooperative development.

BRUSSELS, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao urged Tuesday the European Union (EU) to objectively and fairly treat the RMB exchange rate issue as that would benefit the EU, China, and the world economy.Wen made the remarks while meeting the Euro Group troika, including Euro Group President and Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker, European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet and EU Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Olli Rehn.The meeting took place on the sidelines of the two-day eighth Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit in Brussels as China is under external pressure to appreciate its currency.Wen said China would further reform its formation mechanism of the yuan exchange rate to increase the currency's flexibility.China's central bank has announced on June 19 a series of steps of reforms. The Chinese currency has so far strengthened by about 2 percent against the U.S. dollar.China would also continue to expand import from the EU and strive to balance the trade, said Wen, adding that China was committed to transforming its economic development pattern, restructuring the economy and increasing domestic demands.Wen called on both sides to develop healthy ties from a strategic perspective as the EU has become China's largest trading partner while China stands as the EU's important exporting market.As the world economy was gradually recovering with uncertainties still hovering high, China and the EU should work together to combat the international financial crisis, Wen added.The Euro Group leaders appreciated China's support for the euro and the euro zone, saying the EU and China were good partners and enjoy extensive common interests.They also said the EU rejected both trade protectionism and currency war, and agreed differences and problems should be solved by dialogues.In a speech to the Greek parliament on Monday, Premier Wen said China supported a stable euro and would not reduce its euro-bond holdings.The three Euro Group leaders also held talks with China's Finance Minister Xie Xuren and central bank governor Zhou Xiaochuan here on Monday. BEIJING, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government on Thursday issued the full text of Premier Wen Jiabao's explanation on a proposal that will play a crucial role in shaping the country's development over the next five years.The Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee's Proposal on Formulating the Twelfth Five-year Program (2011-2015) on National Economic and Social Development was adopted at the Fifth Plenum of the 17th CPC Central Committee that ended Oct. 18.Wen's explanation focused on five parts, including China's social and economic development over the past five years, the guiding principle and goals for development in next five years, major tasks in economic development, major tasks in improving social undertakings and people's livelihoods, and major tasks in deepening reform and opening-up.Wen made the explanation on Oct. 15 when the CPC Central Committee session began.The proposal stipulated scientific development as the theme of the 12th Five-year Program, said Wen, noting this is also the first time for a five-year program to include scientific development as its theme.The Scientific Outlook on Development shall be implemented in all sectors of reform and opening-up and the modernization drive, he said.According to Wen, the State Council will make the draft of the 12th Five-year Program based on the proposal. The draft will be submitted to the National People's Congress session next March for deliberation and approval.
