DENVER, Colo. — A Colorado man is trying to find the silver lining in the wildfires by turning his photography into an opportunity to help those affected most.Jeremy Janus was driving back to Denver from Rocky Mountain National Arsenal Friday and he couldn’t believe his eyes.“I saw the smoke plume coming toward Denver and as much as it pained me I knew I had to take photos of it,” Janus said.Janus captured four photos of the smokey skies enhancing the beauty of the sunset.“This photo is called the “Nature That Binds Us,” Janus said. “While I knew these trees were going to be fine, far off in the distance there is also a lot of wildlife and nature that’s also getting destroyed.”He got into photography four years ago to heal a battle with depression and anxiety. DENVER -- The administration of a Denver charter school has been suspended after disturbing video of a playground fight went public. Now, Denver police are investigating the teacher who appears to encourage the girls to throw punches.The April 20 video shows a group of girls at Wyatt Academy in an argument that escalated quickly. The restorative justice officer in the video appears to be smiling and laughing and can be heard at one point in the video saying, "Is anyone, like, going to hit anyone or is this just going to be a…"To which, a child yelled, "people are going to start hitting," before the violence escalated.Community activists said the real story isn't the fight, but the fact that three little girls received Denver Police citations for public fighting, while the school took no action against the teacher for a month — until the video went public."This whole time this is escalating, he never calls for anybody," said H Soul Ashemu, with Our Voice Our Schools, which released the video to try to initiate action from the school or the Denver Public School District.Denver Public School released a statement Friday afternoon saying it is investigating and that they are "deeply troubled by the video." 1248

DEL MAR (CNS) - Mean Sophia, a 3-year-old filly, has died after suffering an injury while racing at Del Mar Racetrack -- the first equine fatality during a summer meet at the track since 2018.The horse stumbled coming out of the gate in Saturday's seventh race, broke her leg and was euthanized after track veterinarians determined that she could not be saved, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.Mean Sophia was owned by Sinnott Family Trust and trained by Peter Miller, according to the industry website Equibase. Her jockey was Ricardo. Gonzalez. She had eight career starts and one first-place finish.While there have been no racing deaths at Del Mar this year or last, four training deaths were recorded last summer, and four other horses have died at the track this summer -- two in training accidents and two listed for ``other'' causes.Officials with Del Mar and the California Horse Racing Board did not immediately respond to requests for comment.Some animal rights activists have urged the track to suspend racing this weekend due to the extreme heat wave plaguing Southern California.Sunday's high was expected to reach 95 degrees in Del Mar. DENVER (AP) — A black bear broke into a Colorado house over the weekend and left by breaking through a wall "like the Kool-Aid Man."Estes Park police say the break-in occurred Friday night and that the animal was likely attracted to trash.A Facebook post by the police department said: "Upon officer's arrival, said bear forcibly breached a hole in the wall like the 'Kool-Aid Man' and made its escape."The Denver Post reports no one was injured.Colorado Parks and Wildlife said bears entered over 35 vehicles and nine residences in the Estes Park area in the 10 days before Aug. 3.
