PRAIRIE VILLAGE, Kan. — Officials in Prairie Village say a garbage truck crashed into a house in Prairie Village Wednesday morning. Police said the driver fell out of the truck after turning onto Cedar Street from 83rd Terrace. The truck continued to roll and smashed into the corner of a home's garage.The homeowners were home at the time but were uninjured. A spokeswoman at Overland Park Regional Medical Center said the trash truck driver remains in critical condition."I opened the front door and the truck was barreling across my grass and all the sudden it hit and we shook,” said the homeowner, Rick Evrard.Michael Yates was remodeling a kitchen at a home across the street when he heard the crash.“All the sudden I heard the boom,” said Yates, “That’s when I looked out the window and I saw the truck was inside the house over there and the fellow was laying on the ground.”The man lying on the ground was the driver. Yates and Evrard ran to him to see if they could help him.“We got towels. He was bleeding profusely from his head,” said Evrard.Evrard was told his house is uninhabitable for the time being.The truck also clipped a gas meter and the gas was shut off for repairs.  1223

PORTSMOUTH, Va.— A hit-and-run in Portsmouth, Virginia, left residents shaken up.Police say a driver hit a U.S. Postal Service letter carrier and drove off, leaving her in serious condition.Judi Gould was overcome with emotion Tuesday afternoon as a witness to the aftermath of a hit-and-run.“You can’t imagine what it’s like to see her like that,” said Gould.She says her beloved letter carrier was struck down in the middle of the street near Airline Boulevard and Caroline Avenue while delivering mail on her route.Police say the 44-year-old was crossing Airline Boulevard when she was hit by a vehicle just before 11 a.m.Police are looking for the driver of a black Dodge Journey that flagged down an officer about the crash. They are asking for the public to share any images from Alexander's Corner to Rodman Avenue between 10:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. Tuesday.The United States Postal Inspection Service is offering a reward of up to ,000 to anyone with information that could lead to an arrest.“She is like the most upbeat mail carrier. It was raining and she still was just glowing, just walking as fast as she could,” said Gould.She says it was only minutes after she saw her bubbly letter carrier that she heard the sirens.“The police were out there picking up all the mail and trying to gather it, and all you do is just watch them.”Gould watched nearby as first responders worked desperately to find signs of life.“They tried for the longest time to revive her. I’ve never seen them try so long and so hard, and she just wasn’t moving.”Multiple neighbors say the intersection at Airline Boulevard and Caroline Avenue is a trouble spot and say something needs to be done about cars flying through the area.“We need a light here we; really need a light here. If they don’t get a street light here, it’s gonna keep getting bad,” said Gould.Now, Gould is pleading for someone who may have details about the driver who left the scene or their vehicle to come forward.“I’m begging, somebody - please hold somebody accountable for this lady’s life, please.”In the meantime, she’ll be thinking of victim’s family, hoping they get closure before the holidays.“If you did it, and you know you did, it was an accident; please come forward. He will be one of a small group of people attending the typically packed game.Because of coronavirus pandemic safety restrictions, the only fans in the stands at the annual game was limited to the Brigade of Midshipmen and Army cadets, according to the Baltimore Sun.The Army-Navy game is typically played in a larger stadium, however Saturday the teams will face-off at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York. This is the only the sixth time the Army-Navy game will be played on a college campus, the last time was also at the Military Academy in 1943 due to World War II, according to the Baltimore Sun.Trump attended the Army-Navy game twice as president and as president-elect in 2016.
