SIRTE, Libya, March 27 (Xinhua) -- China expects that the Arab summit in Libya can coordinate the inter-Arab relations and make achievements in the Palestinian cause, a senior Chinese diplomat said here on Saturday."We hope the Arab countries could coordinate internal relations and achieve positive results in reconciliation among Palestinian factions as well as the resumption of Palestinian-Israeli talks at the summit," said China's Special Envoy to Middle East Wu Sike in an interview with Xinhua on the sidelines of the 22nd Arab Summit in the Libyan city of Sirte.As a special representative of Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Wu attended the opening ceremony of the summit at the invitation of the Arab League Secretariat. NAIROBI, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Somali pirates have hijacked a Taiwan fishing boat off the Horn of Africa nation coast with 26 crew members, a regional maritime official confirmed on Saturday.Andrew Mwangura, East Africa coordinator of Seafarers Assistance Program, said the ship's owner lost contact with the Tai Yuan 227 two days ago north of the Seychelles as it headed for the Maldives. "The fishing boat lost contacts two days ago and has 26 crew members from China, Kenya, Taiwanese and Mozambique. BEIJING, May 4 (Xinhua) -- China called off its grade II drought emergency response on Tuesday as the severe drought in its southwestern regions eased after recent rain.The drought, one of the worst in decades, eased in most parts of the Chongqing Municipality, provinces of Sichuan and Guizhou, and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, said the Office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters in a statement on its website.But in Yunnan Province, the drought was still severe in most parts as the province had only received limited and scattered rainfalls, it said.Southwestern China had six falls of rain between March 22 and April 26, which ranged in volume from 50 to 100 millimeters, figures from the China Meteorological Administration showed.As of Tuesday, up to 123 million mu (about 8.3 million hectares) of arable land in China was affected by the drought, with 17.91 million people and 12.43 million farm animals still short of water, said the statement.
