Universal spokesman Tom Schroder said in an email Monday that the Florida theme park resort was reducing its workforce "to reflect current priorities and needs." Universal has put the construction of a new theme park, Epic Universe, on pause because of the pandemic. Universal Orlando closed its doors in March as the novel coronavirus started spreading in the U.S. It was the first of Orlando's major theme park operators to reopen when it welcomed back visitors in early June. Because of that, some local farmers are not able to sell their produce. But some farmers are determined to make sure their customers continue to get fresh produce, even if it's not readily available.Having fresh produce lately seems like a luxury. With panicked consumers in apocalypse mode, grocery shelves are looking dismal. Some won't even leave their homes. With farmers markets now shut down, local small farmers don't have a place to sell. Since 1929, Oceanside's Yasukochi Family Farms has survived many droughts, recessions, and even WWII Japanese Internment. (KGTV) -  A group called "Take Back Oceanside" with some 300 members strong is vowing the clean up the filth and violence they say has crept into their neighborhood along the San Luis Rey riverbed.Organizer Drew Andrioff says the crime is out of control."We believe other coastal communities are giving the transients bus and train tickets here, and the city is limited in what they can do. It's gotten so bad no one wants to take their kids out. Police don't come down here after dark because the camps have traps....trip wires and sharp bamboo," said Andrioff.Police estimate nearly 500 homeless people are living along the riverbank.  The Oceanside Police Department has made over 1,000 arrests in that area since the first of the year.Lifelong Oceanside resident Donna McGinty says the crime is seeping into the city."Every atrocity imaginable is happening down there.  Prostitution is rampant.  The transient groups have their own little government down there and it's well organized," she said.Pictures taken by the neighborhood group show used needles, hundreds of shopping carts, heaping trash, a machete, and a polluted river. The group plans to attend the Oceanside City Council meeting on October 17 to ask for help. 1283

OCEANSIDE (KGTV) — After a decade of delays, the Oceanside Beach Resort is weeks away from construction.The initial approval for the project happened 13 years ago when the City of Oceanside selected the developer. The project is located near the small white beach home featured in the movie Top Gun. 10News talked with Senior Vice President of S.D. Malkin Properties, Jeremy Cohen, who said they ran into many roadblocks along the way."We faced a lawsuit, we won, it was appealed, and we won that, and that kind of brought us to where we are today," said Cohen.The lawsuit claimed the program the city uses to share hotel taxes and support the development violated the state constitution. Along with a drawn-out lawsuit, they also were pushed back by the Great Recession and a period of delays in redevelopment across California.Cohen tells 10News, “Although it had been done dozens of times in the state before, it was the first time it was challenged. The court found it was completely constitutional, completely acceptable, and so it just delayed us for three years."Construction is now set to start in December 2018, just before the new year. “There will be a couple of months of excavation; then you’ll see a concrete superstructure, about six or seven stories,” Cohen detailed.The parking for the beach resort will be relocated to an underground garage. As far as the Top Gun house is concerned, it will be completely taken off the property. Historians will preserve the exterior and Cohen will update the inside.“We’re looking at it as a really special kind of ice cream place so everyone can come in and get a 'top cone' from the Top Gun house," Cohen said. 1674
