SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The number of San Diegans who spend at least 90 minutes on their daily commute grew nearly 15% over the last decade, according to a recent analysis.Apartment List reports as San Diego County's workforce grew 10.8% from 2009 to 2017, "super commuters" (commuting 90 minutes or more one way) grew 14.9%. Overall though, the share of San Diego's workforce who endure a super commute is only 0.1%.The study showed the trend is much worse in other California counties like San Francisco (110.4% growth since 2009) and Los Angeles (up 22.3% since 2009).Other areas of the state located just outside San Francisco also saw large increases, like Contra Costa and Alameda Counties, which saw a 101.8% and 126.5% increases in super commute workforce, respectively.Rural counties were also more likely to endure a long commute, like Mono County, Calif., which saw a 1166.7% increase."Beyond the super commuters who drive from distant exurbs to work in the downtown offices of pricey superstar cities, we also see high rates of super commuting in some counties that are much closer to the urban core," the study said. "This is evidence of the large number of super commuters who rely on public transit. Super commuting is also common in certain pockets of rural America, particularly those with active drilling and mining industries."Extraction and construction jobs were the most likely to have the longest commute times. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The San Diego Board of Supervisors announced Monday that the county will close bars without a license to sell food ahead of the July 4 weekend in an effort to slow rising coronavirus cases.San Diego Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said the county will close all bars, wineries, and breweries that do not have a license to serve food. California took a similar stance with several counties over the weekend."Bars are purely social settings where different people and groups often mix. It's a simple reality that alcohol consumption impairs judgment and may lead to less compliance with physical distancing guidelines," Fletcher said. "People often spend more time in a bar than other establishments like a restaurant for eating."RELATED: Gov. Of those, two outbreaks were traced back to restaurants/bars. During Monday's press conference, the county wasn't able to specify how many of the region's total cases had visited bars.Fletcher added that the county is reinstating an order that alcohol can only be consumed while customers are simultaneous eating meals and can't be ordered alone. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Valley Fire has scorched more than 17,000 acres forcing families and animals out of their homes, but during all the chaos, the Children's Nature Retreat in Alpine was able to find safe homes for most of its 143 animals. It's been a tough last few days says Executive Director Agnes Barrelet, who spotted the fire and a hillside, the minute it sparked."You can't panic. You have to worry, but you have to remain cool. If you panic, your animals are going to sense it, and it's going to be worse," said Barrelet.In all, the nature retreat had to evacuate 118 of their animal which wasn't easy."We evacuated the most fragile animals first, and then the one's that may panic. I evacuated all the horses, then the mini horses mini donkeys," Barrelet says.A majority of the animals were taken by Good Samaritan's and given places to stay at various locations in East County."They were calling us and we were determining what space they had, and how much space. We also needed to know the height of the fences," Barrelet said. "That gave us an indication of who would take which animals where."It's been a tough year for the Children's Nature Retreat, as they were forced to close earlier this year due to COVID-19, and now the fires have temporarily shut them down."The fire of course forced us to close down again.
