CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A beloved South Bay preschool director is being remembered as someone who always made others feel special.Aaron Partch was a co-director at Concordia Preschool in Chula Vista. He passed away September 15th.A virtual memorial for him was held Saturday.Like many other schools, Concordia closed in March during the pandemic. A couple months after the school closure, Partch was diagnosed with grade four glioblastoma. He had undergone brain surgery and was receiving treatment, including chemotherapy and radiation. In mid-September, Partch passed away suddenly from a heart attack.“God took our warrior up to heaven where he no doubt is singing and dancing with the angels,” his family wrote online. His co-workers said his energy will be missed.“He knows everybody by name. His greetings were always extremely cheerful, but sincere. When he asked you how your day was, he wanted to know,” said preschool teacher Meagan Lee, who worked with Partch for the last two years. “I think it’s really hard for all of us to walk down the halls and know he’s not going to be there with us.”Partch had been with Concordia Preschool for more than ten years. Nearby schools also remembered him.“If you knew him, you knew what a loss this is not just for Concordia, but for our community as well. Aaron was one of those people who lit up a room. He filled every moment with happiness and joy, and he was such a great leader to his students,” the Enrique Camarena PTA wrote on Facebook.Partch was 51 years old. He leaves behind his wife and four children. There is a link to donate to the family online to help them get through this difficult time. It is posted here. 1688

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A vandal that struck overnight in a Chula Vista neighborhood was apparently targeting high-end vehicles. The Jovel family first noticed something was wrong Sunday morning in front of their home along Via Escalante."Upsetting and bizarre," said Jesse Jovel. His sister saw a flat tire on his Mercedes SUV parked in the driveway and ran inside to tell him about it. Jovel came outside, saw the flat, but then found much more: scratches across the body and tires of the Mercedes."I thought it was not happening, that it was a joke," said Jovel. They ran to the street, where his sister's Mercedes was parked. "Her car was the same way, and the car behind it and the car behind it," said Jovel. One of those cars was Jovel's other vehicle, a Maserati Ghibli. It was also keyed all over. Two of its tires were sliced and flattened."Sad. Very sad that people are willing to do this just for the heck of it," said Jovel.Jovel says a total of at least six other vehicles were targeted. He barely looked at the others but remembers them being new and high-end vehicles. "It's not acceptable you are in a community you think it's safe and now you realize it's not safe," said Jovel.Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Chula Vista Police at 619-691-5151. 1293

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — There's something delicious brewing in Chula Vista. Its frothy, malty, hoppy flavor has already won awards.Chula Vista's brewery scene has seen a spike over the last four years. Novo Brazil Brewing, Thr3e Punk Ales, Groundswell Brewing, Bay Bridge Brewery, and Chula Vista Brewery are among the players. While "craft beer in San Diego" isn't new to many around the county, more recently it's become a catalyst in revitalizing Chula Vista's Third Avenue.LIFE IN CHULA VISTA: Exploring the city's diverse historyTiago Carneiro, CEO of Novo Brazil Brewing, says part of their mission was to offer a taste of the North County scene to South Bay residents."We saw a huge opportunity. Whenever you go to the north, you have a lot of breweries already," Carneiro said. "We asked ourselves, why can’t we start a new story here in Chula Vista."And why not? Chula Vista is the county's second largest city and saw one of the biggest population increases in California in 2018, according to the California Department of Finance.LIFE IN CHULA VISTA: Taco spot attracts customers from all over the countyBut as Carneiro points out, the craft beer scene was largely celebrated to the north. Now one look at Third Avenue and it's hard to miss the breweries and tasting rooms that line the street."And today when I see a lot of breweries coming to Chula Vista, I think it's amazing," Carneiro says. "It's good for everyone."The "Capital of Craft," as San Diego is affectionately called, saw craft beer's might in 2018 to the tune of .2 billion in economic impact, an increase of 6% from 2017, according to the San Diego Brewers Guild. LIFE IN CHULA VISTA: Bayfront overhaul becoming a realityNumbers like that can reinforce brewers' ambitions. Novo itself plans to open a restaurant and brewhouse in Otay Ranch Town Center, its second location in Chula Vista since it opened in 2015.While Chula Vista's share of San Diego County breweries remains comparatively low, it's considered just the beginning of the "South Bay Uprising," a term used in calls for more craft beer in the South Bay. Craft options cropping up in National City and Imperial Beach could signal success for Chula Vista's scene. Breweries are doing their part, seen this month when Chula Vista Brewery took home a bronze medal at the Great American Beer Festival. Their award-winning brew: an American-style brown ale called "Browner Than Ivan.""I really believe in the area," says Carneiro. "I think in Chula Vista, there is a very strong community here." 2546

CINCINNATI -- Just days after calling for a national boycott of the Kroger Co., the Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. brought his fight to the corporation's front porch. The Rainbow Push Coalition Local Steering Committee invited Jackson to Cincinnati as he continues his protest over Kroger closures in predominantly black neighborhoods. Kroger closed three unprofitable grocery stores in Memphis in February, mirroring its closure of a store in Cincinnati's Walnut Hills neighborhood last year. The company said its East McMillan Street location had lost millions of dollars over years."We wrote a letter to the leadership of Kroger, and they did not respond to us," Jackson said. "This is a pattern across the country. There are enough mouths to be fed and people to be served for Kroger to stay in the community. They may want to leave, but there are people who want to buy."Watch Jackson's full remarks in the video player below.  961
