SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — California Highway Patrol officers arrested a driver who knocked over a light pole on Interstate 5, causing it to fall into the path of oncoming traffic Friday night.It happened on the northbound lanes of I-5 just before the State Route 163 connector.The driver of a white Chevy Impala went off the road crashed into two light poles, knocking one of the light poles onto the right lane and into oncoming traffic.CHP says at least seven cars smashed into the downed light pole, damaging the vehicles. However, there were no injuries.The driver of the Impala told CHP he merely fell asleep behind the wheel, but after a sobriety test, he was arrested.“He was arrested for DUI,” said Steve Jio, with the CHP. “Possibly drugs, and we’re taking him to our station to be evaluated."Three lanes of I-5 were closed off for about an hour as crews removed the damaged vehicles and the downed light pole.Crews plan to replace the light pole Saturday morning. 974

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- California and 13 other states filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration Thursday, seeking to block changes to the federal food stamp program that would put 380,000 Californians at risk of losing benefits.The lawsuit claims the Trump administration failed to follow proper procedure and is undermining the intent of the food stamp program, known in California as CalFresh."No one should have to choose between a hot meal and paying their rent," said California Attorney General Xavier Becerra in a statement. Andy Williams, Commander of the California Highway Patrol Oceanside Station, is under investigation after his arrest for suspicion of domestic violence.ABC 10News obtained the request for a restraining order against Williams, filed by his ex-wife. In the court documents, she details an argument the two got into at his home in Carlsbad Oct. 19. She claims he struck her near her buttocks with enough force to leave a hand mark and welts.Carlsbad police confirmed to ABC 10News that they arrested Williams. A spokesperson for the District Attorney tells ABC 10News they are investigating the case to decide whether to file charges.Williams is out on bail. CHP has placed him on administrative leave and removed his powers as a peace officer.CHP Border Commander Chief Omar Watson sent ABC 10News a statement:"The CHP is aware of the arrest of Capt. The former presidential candidate stood alongside protestors at The Westin Hotel on Friday. “Nobody wants to do this. We would all like to work right now,” says employee Arturo Ramirez.Ramirez has been working at The Westin Hotel since February. With the high cost of living in San Diego, Ramirez says its sometimes hard to pay the bills.“My mother and I, we work at the same hotel. We’re struggling to pay ,100 in rent," Ramirez says.Bernie Sanders took the stage to show his support to workers during his visit to San Diego.“We’re saying to Marriott who owns Westin, we’re saying to every corporation in this country who make billions of dollars in profit, pay your workers a living wage," Sanders said to a crowd of protesters.Employees are asking for a raise of at least an hour and a chance to save for their retirement.“It’s a billion dollar company that needs to pay the workers a living wage so they can live in the city of San Diego," says Bridgett Browning, President of Unite Here Union.
