(KGTV) — Is the worst of gas prices behind us for the years?Researchers at GasBuddy believe California will soon see relief from climbing gas prices, after hitting more than a gallon across much of the state. Industry officials have blamed the price hike in part on refinery problems and demand across the state.While areas will climb back down at different rates, GasBuddy believes most areas will see lower prices before Memorial Day and stay that way through the summer months.MAP: To find the best price on gasoline around San Diego County"It’s been a rough spring at the pump with prices advancing at a maddening pace and multi-year highs happening in more places than I can count on two hands," Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said in a release. "We’re cautiously optimistic now that the worst is behind us and relief is on the horizon for nearly every area in the country. Motorists shouldn’t get too impatient — this won’t happen overnight — but as stations begin to fill their tanks with slightly cheaper gasoline, they’ll begin to pass the savings on, just in time for Memorial Day and beyond."Researchers did caution while prices along the West Coast are likely to drop first, any future problems with refineries could interrupt that relief for consumers."Gas prices in California will likely drop back under per gallon by the time gas stations have fully passed along the lower prices in the weeks ahead, and hopefully won’t see such prices again all summer as refineries ramp up production, leading to an increase in supply," the analysis said. (CNN) -- The Bay Area has many murals, with images of everyone from Robin Williams to Nipsey Hussle gracing its buildings.Now, there's a new name to add to that list: Greta Thunberg.A mural of the Swedish teenage climate activist, whose movement has caught the attention of the world, is set to be completed next Tuesday.Located in downtown San Francisco near Union Square (420 Mason St., for all you locals), the mural features Thunberg from the chest up — gazing straight into our souls, lips pursed.It's enough to make anyone stop and consider their environmental impact.And that's kind of the point, said Paul Scott, executive director of OneAtmosphere.org — the nonprofit that's funding the project.The organization wanted to focus on art celebrating climate activists, Scott told CNN. When brainstorming people to feature, Thunberg was the first person that came to mind."If we can amplify her message and get more people involved and listening to what she's saying, then we're doing some good," he said.The overall feedback has been incredibly positive, he said. But the most critical reactions have been from those who haven't recognized her."They're struck by the image and want to learn more," he said. "If they take the time to learn more about what she's trying to share, that I think has an impact on most people. Makes them want to help."Andrés Petreselli is the artist behind the mural. He also did the city's Robin Williams one, which is how Scott found his work.Petreselli is donating his time to the cause and told CNN he feels connected to everything Thunberg is doing. She sets examples for the whole world, he said."We're pretty much at the beginning of our extinction, so if we don't do anything right now, it's going to be too late," he said.It's not the first mural to the young activistThunberg and her message have inspired murals around the world. One in Bristol, England, featuring the activist partly underwater went up earlier this year, along with another one in Canada.Not everyone has been eager to hear her message. The mural in Canada, painted on a "free wall" along a bike path, was defaced twice shortly after it was first created, according to CNN affiliate CBC.The adversity hasn't stopped Thunberg, though.She is best known for her climate strikes, which she began in 2018 outside the Swedish Parliament. Her protest inspired thousands of students around the world to walk out of class and demand action on the climate crisis.She hasn't slowed down. She's spoken to everyone from the United Nations to the US Congress -- and even former President Barack Obama -- about the climate crisis."As it is now, people in general don't seem to be very aware of the actual science and how serious this crisis is," she said in September during a congressional hearing. Gavin Newsom signs a bill passed by the state Senate Friday, state university clinics will be required to offer abortion pills to students as of 2023."The state has an interest in ensuring that every pregnant person in California who wants to have an abortion can obtain access to that care as easily and as early in pregnancy as possible," the bill states.California's legislation comes as several other states are moving to tighten abortion restrictions or to ban them with very limited exceptions."In a time when states across our country are rolling back women's health care and access to abortion, California continues to lead the nation to protect every individual's right to choose," Sen. Connie Leyva, who authored the bill, said in a statement. "SB 24 reaffirms the right of every college student to access abortion."Giving students access to abortion by medication means students won't have to "choose between delaying important medical care or having to travel long distances or miss classes or work," Leyva said.If it becomes law, the initiative would be funded by "nonstate entities, including, but not necessarily limited to, private sector entities and local and federal government agencies," the bill says.There are more than 400,000 women students at California's state university campuses, according to the bill.Former California Gov. Jerry Brown last year vetoed a similar bill. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Newsom said last year that he would have signed that one. 1533
