The mental strain has been non-stop and now seasonal depression is expected to add to those stresses."There is one word that I would say now, it is fatigue,” said Douglas County Health Director Adi Pour about how people are feeling regarding the pandemic. “There is no question, the public is fatigued."Mental health experts worry that seasonal depression will only add to the already prevalent pandemic-related stresses."It just multiplies it, it stacks,” said CHI Health Mental Health Therapist Tim Hron.Seasonal depression, or Seasonal Affective Disorder, has to do with changes in serotonin levels in the colder months, directly affecting your mood. It's a condition that affects about five percent of adults in the U.S. and typically lasts about 40 percent of the year."It can present itself with fatigue, depressed mood, some of those other typical symptoms of depression but just more in that seasonal time frame," said Hron.Hron also says it's important to reach out for help if your symptoms last longer than two weeks. CLAIREMONT (KGTV) - A Clairemont couple is heartbroken after their homemade metal reindeer, that stood about 5-feet tall, was stolen off their front yard."Oh I loved it, I loved it! And you know my neighbors did too, they would comment on it," Shurli Wilkinson said neighbors first saw the reindeer appear perched on three palm tree trunks that acted as a pedestal."I wanted to make a deer for the front yard so we could decorate for Christmas," Metal Artist Don Rochrke said. He spent weeks creating the life-sized brown deer for his wife of 5 years.Wilkinson loves Christmas and was excited to put it out as soon as it was finished. "It's a wonderful time of the year, it's a time of sharing and giving, loving and expressing... It was something he did specially for me because I wanted the reindeer," she said as tears grew visible in her eyes.She was shocked when she woke up Sunday morning, looked out the bedroom window and saw it had vanished. "Apparently someone liked it enough to take it," Rochrke said. Wilkinson said he loves creating metal art and when he's finished, if he likes it, he wants to keep it, and if not, he's too embarrassed to think of someone else displaying it in their home. He's never sold his art.Instead, his home displays his vast collection, including floating whales in the kitchen, fish and turtles swimming on the walls and various waterfowl dotting the rooms.As he gets older, the work becomes more difficult."He's had his wrist fused and he has to have his shoulder replaced... I was thinking it was one of the last pieces of art that he would be doing," she said.The loss cutting that much deeper."Creating to me is the opposite of dying and since he's almost 80 and he's still creating it thrills me because I know he's living and enjoying life," Wilkinson said.The reindeer, serving as a symbol. One that she wants back, "it's just something precious that someone did for another person and for someone to take that away is heartbreaking."Wilkinson said they're now thinking about buying a surveillance system to keep something like that from happening again. Rochrke said he asked if the police could patrol the area, and was told the area has too little crime.Rochrke said the statue weighed around 50 pounds and probably took 'two guys and a truck' to haul it away.Both hope the reindeer will be returned. 2359

College students are stepping up to help working moms during the pandemic with a virtual tutoring service called Project Matriarchs.Two students on a gap year came up with the idea. After talking with parents about balancing work and remote learning for their kids, they found moms were shouldering most of the responsibilities. Some were resorting to dropping out of the workforce.“It was just this reoccurring conversation we'd have where people felt so overwhelmed and so alone and we were like OK we just, we need to do something, not only for these women who are experiencing this right now, but also for ourselves in our peer group who are going to be inheriting these norms very soon,” said Lola McAllister, co-founder of Project Matriarchs.Here's how it works. Forms to sign up are online. College students will be vetted to become tutors. Then, the site will match them with kids based on availability and what subject they need help with. The tutors can either volunteer or make an hour, but most parents don't pay anything at all.Project Matriarchs relies on donations to keep the service available for families who need it most.“So many of these kids in different school systems especially are getting left behind, not on purpose or not because the teacher can help it, but just kind of having the one-on-one support that isn't a cost burden that is accessible to everyone I think has just proven to be really important,” said Pilar McDonald, co-founder of Project Matriarchs.The founders are now in talks with employers about offering their service. 1574

CLEVELAND — A Cleveland website is facing backlash after attempting to be humorous about the foreclosure crisis and sex trafficking. Coolcleveland.com wrote an article about an upcoming gingerbread house making event at restaurant TownHall. In the now deleted post, the site said "the foreclosure crisis left a lot of empty gingerbread houses around Cleveland. Many end up becoming dens for cracker addicts." It also mentioned "gingerbread sex slaves."A spokesperson for TownHall said they were upset by the post. "We are appalled by the article written by Cool Cleveland. Contact has been lost with the Cassini spacecraft after it completed a "death dive" into the upper atmosphere of Saturn and transmitted its final signal, according to NASA.The spacecraft deliberately sank into Saturn's upper atmosphere at a high speed and plunged itself into the planet just after 6:30 a.m. ET Friday.
