SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Independent reviews by the FDA show the COVID-19 vaccines by Pfizer and Moderna have similar levels of safety and efficacy, although there are early indications of potential differences.Both vaccines rely on the same basic approach: jumpstarting the immune system with messenger RNA. Pfizer’s vaccine was 92.9 percent effective in people aged 65 to 74 and 100 percent effective in individuals 75 and up.“When I think people in the community look at that number, they might say, ‘Oh, that Moderna vaccine probably isn't as good for the older population compared to the Pfizer vaccine.’ But as a clinician looking at numbers, they're both amazing,” said UC San Francisco infectious disease expert Dr. Peter Chin-Hong.FDA scientists found both vaccines are safe but short-term side effects are common, especially with Moderna’s drug. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Jalen McDaniels, San Diego State University basketball's sophomore forward, was accused of filming consensual sex acts with a classmate in 2016 without her knowledge and sharing it with friends, according to a civil lawsuit filed Wednesday in Washington.The civil suit alleges McDaniels recorded the intimate moments with an 18-year-old female student while they were both seniors at Federal Way High School near Tacoma, Wash.The lawsuit goes on to say while McDaniels later told the plaintiff about the unauthorized recordings and that he had shared it with his friends, she learned from other students that the video became widely circulated. When she confronted McDaniels, he explained he had gotten away with a similar incident involving another female student, according to the lawsuit.The plaintiff's attorney, Joan Mell, who filed the suit, wrote her client has suffered from several self-destructive behaviors as a result, including attempting suicide.SDSU is accused of wrongdoing in the lawsuit as well.Mell alleges in the lawsuit that SDSU was contacted by Washington police to provide them with McDaniels' phone number, but failed to do so. "I'm his Prime Minister and his daddy."In his mid-60s, Bogaert is a man with a big imagination who loves to share tales, turning his late-model Dodge Caravan into a storytelling canvas."I have Peter Pan, Wendy, Tinker Bell and the Boys going to Never Never Land," Bogaert shares.Almost every square inch of his vehicle features his own hand-drawn depictions of famed children's stories, mostly from English literature."And then I have Fezziwig's warehouse here," Bogaert says, pointing to various images on the car. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — It’s something that has never happened before and could have long-lasting political impacts.Experts are projecting California will lose at least one congressional seat, and possibly two, once the 2020 Census numbers are finalized. The Census officially ended last week.If the outside projections are correct, it would be the first time ever that California’s political voice will shrink, and San Diego County is one of the most likely regions to have its representation diminish, according to Douglas Johnson, a researcher at the Rose Institute at Claremont McKenna College.Fewer House seats will affect all Californians, Johnson said, when big issues go before Congress.“That would mean we have two less votes in D.C. when there are votes on which state should get transportation dollars or what should be water policy or anything like that,” Johnson said.It also means California could drop from 55 votes to 53 in the Electoral College, giving the Golden State less influence in future presidential elections.When the squiggly congressional maps get redrawn, Johnson says it’s easy to predict which region will lose the first House seat: eastern Los Angeles County.“We can see that area is way short of the population for where it should be to justify the number of seats it has,” he said.Predicting the second seat on the hypothetical chopping block is trickier, he said.It could get carved out of the agriculture-rich Central Valley. But Johnson thinks the more likely scenario is that a seat in Northern San Diego County could be absorbed, in an area covering Solana Beach, Vista, Carlsbad, Oceanside and into southern Orange County.“The district in the middle is the 49th, and so it's the most likely to get squeezed,” he said.Ultimately, it will be up to the California Citizens Redistricting Commission to redraw the lines, a group created in 2010.They come up with crazy shapes because each district must have an equal population -- within one person -- based on interpretation from the Supreme Court.
