The spreading coronavirus canceled several touring performances from A-list musical artists, but those acts have found a new venue to sing: their living rooms. John Legend, Bono, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Pink, John Mayer, Keith Urban and more have held virtual concerts from their homes as the world continues to practice social distancing to slow the spread of the virus. Others have participated in unique ways, from Miley Cyrus launching a talk show to OneRepublic holding cooking lessons, to interact from home with fans. Former One Direction singer Niall Horan, Rob Thomas, JoJo, Christine and the Queens and Yungblud are livestreaming directly to fans. Comedians have gotten in on the act, too. Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon hosted a home from his kitchen on Tuesday. 787
The Trump administration is expected to announce its plan to enforce a controversial provision of the decades-old trade embargo on Cuba Wednesday, a senior administration official tells CNN -- a decision that will break with the precedent set by every President since Bill Clinton.US National Security Adviser John Bolton is set to outline President Donald Trump's plan to fully implement Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, a previously suspended section of the US trade embargo on the Communist-run country during a speech in Miami, the official said.It is a move that is widely considered to be part of the administration's efforts to ramp up pressure on Havana over its support for Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro -- who Trump criticized as a "Cuban puppet" in February. Cuban officials have decried the increased sanctions on the communist-run island and offered to enter into negotiations to repay US companies for seized property.During 959
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on Thursday encountered a blitz of questions from House Democrats seeking to establish a legal basis for requesting President Donald Trump's tax returns. It was the first time Trump's top finance chief, a close ally of the President, was forced to publicly address the unprecedented issue of whether he would comply with an obscure law that may require him to turn over his boss' tax returns, if a formal request is made by Massachusetts Rep. Richard Neal, the Democratic chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.Throughout a more than two-hour hearing on Capitol Hill, Democrats asked Mnuchin to state exactly how he would handle such a request, which the secretary carefully tried to side-step, at one point, even jokingly noting, "There's a lot of interest in 6103 today" -- a reference to the tax law.Mnuchin told lawmakers he would obey the law if he receives a written request from Congress to turn over Trump's tax returns -- but also suggested that the decision to release the returns would fall to the commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service, the country's federal tax collector.Trump has refused to release his tax returns, 1190
The overall quality of a new, model year 2019 vehicle was no better than in 2018, despite the average vehicle price increasing from year to year.In a study released Wednesday by J.D. Power and Associates, it measured the number of problems experienced during the first 90 days of ownership. Based on this standard, the study found 13 brands improved, while 18 worsened. Overall, it found that there were 93 problems per 100 vehicles with new cars. Some models, on average, had more than one problem per vehicle. The study found that Genesis was the best performing brand in 2019 with 63 problems per 100 vehicles. Genesis was followed by Kia with 70 problems per 100 vehicles. The worst performing auto brand was Jaguar with 130 problems per 100 vehicles. “Automakers continue to make progress in areas like infotainment that attract a lot of consumer attention,” said Dave Sargent, Vice President of Global Automotive at J.D. Power. “However, some traditional problems crept up this year including paint imperfections, brake and suspension noises, engines not starting and the ‘check engine’ light coming on early in the ownership experience. Also, more people are having issues with their advanced driver assistance systems, which are critical for building consumer trust in future automated vehicles.”J.D. Power notes that Hyundai Motor Group brands Genesis, Kia and Hyundai has widened the gap in quality. Hyundai ranked third with 71 problems per vehicle. The next best brand is Ford with 83 problems per vehicle. One area of improvement is car's infotainment units, but remains as the most problematic category for new vehicles. Although the quality has not increased among new cars, the price has. Kelley Blue Book found that new car prices increased 1.3 percent from the end of 2017 to the end of 2018. After taking their quizzes, the companies recommended a variety of vitamins costing over . Vitamins include probiotics, iron, calcium, B12 complex and more. The results can be compelling, but it can also be very expensive."I think a lot of supplements are unnecessary and most people can meet their needs through a healthy diet," says registered dietician Stephanie Thomson. Before filling up your medicine cabinets, Thomson says it might be a total waste of money."Supplements are not regulated by the FDA,” Thompson explains. “So, you don't know what’s in these supplements. They might not be getting what think they are getting, or they could be contaminated."Unlike drug makers, supplement manufactures do not have to submit proof of safety or efficacy, before bringing their product to market. If you chose to take a vitamin or supplement, Thomson says to consult with your doctor first. 1383
