CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - In August, Dean Riggott watched as his wife Karen fell off a Bird Scooter, her head crashing into the pavement. "It's been the most traumatic experience in my entire life," said Dean.Doctors initially told Dean that his wife likely wouldn't survive; she fractured her skull in 10 different places and was in a coma. "They were asking me to quite honestly start to get stuff in order, they didn't feel she would make it out of the first few days," remembers Dean. But each day, Karen continued to beat the odds. By day 32 she was out of the coma and began to show movement in her hands and feet. Weeks later, she was in rehab beginning to walk. "I didn't really know exactly what happened and I was in pain, I still am in pain, but I'm capable of moving, and my memory is good!" said Karen. After 69 days in the hospital and rehab, Karen was finally able to go home on Friday. "I'm the happiest man on this planet. I tell her every day thank you for being my wife, every day. I'm the most fortunate man in the world, I get to keep loving her," said Dean. Karen says each of her milestones gives her more hope and strength. She'll continue her recovery in rehab. 1195

CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A transient pleaded guilty to an arson count Monday for setting a fire in Chula Vista, one of several blazes he was arrested on suspicion of sparking.Alejandro Gonzalez, 33, is slated to be sentenced Jan. 13 to a 32-month prison term.He was initially charged with four felony counts of arson of a structure or forest involving blazes on May 24, June 14, Sept. 17 and Sept. 20, but those counts were dismissed Monday morning as part of his plea to a newly filed arson of property count. The new count is not connected with a specific fire, but Deputy District Attorney Roza Egiazarian said all the blazes he was charged with setting will be considered at his sentencing hearing.RELATED: Man tied to series of fires in Chula Vista river bottom arrestedAccording to Chula Vista police, who said about a dozen blazes were sparked at various locations throughout the city since late April, Gonzalez was arrested near the scene of a Sept. 20 brush fire.Officers spotted him "walking quickly away" from the blaze in the 1700 block of Fourth Avenue, according to police, who said he had several lighters in his possession and during questioning, "admitted to intentionally setting several brush fires in the river-bottom area over the past five months. Gonzalez claimed he was setting the fires due to hearing voices."Chula Vista police said the fires were largely in the river bottom area that Gonzalez was "known to frequent" and mostly charred vegetation. In addition to the river bottom fires, police say there were four separate suspicious fires set less than 10 minutes apart on Sept. 17, along with a Sept. 19 fire at Veterans Park. 1658

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A grateful South Bay mother says a "miracle" happened, after her missing son surfaced in a small Mexican town with no memory.Without a job, 37-year-old John Mooney ended up on the streets in the Chula Vista several years ago but he never lost touch with his mother."Always had contact with him. Not two or three days would go by without me seeing him," said Lynda Mooney, John's mother.John would visit Lynda at her Chula Vista home, where he stored his belongings. In late September, he stopped showing up.RELATED: Chula Vista: Victim carjacked, kidnapped by suspects disguised as officers"Very out of the ordinary. I was devastated and panicking," said Lynda.Lynda filed a missing persons report and searched."Anywhere you go, you look for him. Your imagination runs away from you. Every time you hear a siren, you are panicking," said Lynda. The agony of not knowing became her daily torture. A month and a half went by. Then came a surprise early this week.RELATED: Several high-end vehicles vandalized in Chula Vista neighborhood"Shocked, relief, and disbelief," said Lynda. She found herself staring at John's photo, shared with her from a viral post. A week prior, a mystery man had appeared in Ejido Neuvo Leon, a small Mexican town southeast of Mexicali, with no memory. He did not know his name and spoke only English, Lynda says. The locals fed and cared for him and the story of the stranger spread quickly. The San Diego-based California Advocates for the Missing created the Facebook post that went viral and within two hours, Lynda saw it. "Relief, frantic. Trying to figure out what's going on ... how to put the puzzle pieces together," said Lynda.RELATED: Testimony wraps in murder trial of Chula Vista man stabbed, stuffed in barrelLynda says she can't explain his amnesia. She's grateful to the missing persons group, which helped connect her to people in the town, leading to a brief phone call with her son."They are so amazing. The outreach of help through them has been humbling. Don't have words to express what this means to me ... Such a relief to hear his voice," said Lynda.John has gotten a bit of his memory back, but remains reluctant to come home."We will keep at it. The question I keep asking is, 'How'd he get there?' I just want to bring him home," said Lynda. 2331

CHULA VISTA (CNS) - After initially rescheduling concerts -- including a Chula Vista appearance -- while he recovers from surgery, rocker Ozzy Osbourne announced Thursday he has been forced to postpone all of the remaining North American shows on his "No More Tours 2" tour until next year.Osbourne was originally set to perform at the Mattress Firm Amphitheatre on Tuesday, but the show was pushed back until Oct. 18 because he was being treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles for infections on his right hand. Now the show is off altogether, with the rocker saying the infections will likely require another surgery. The shows will be rescheduled next year, and tickets for the canceled shows will be honored.RELATED:  747

Chick-Fil-A is testing a new menu item in Arizona, and depending on how it goes, it could be rolled out to menus nationwide.Starting Monday, spicy chicken strips will be available at Chick-Fil-A restaurants in Phoenix, Tucson and Yuma, the fast-food chain said. They've been under test in Philadelphia and Texas since last year. The strips come in orders of three or four, and a choice of dipping sauce. The company said it combined their original chicken strips and spicy chicken strip sandwich to create the new menu item. The strips are seasoned with a spicy blend of peppers, hand-breaded, and cooked in refined peanut oil.
