SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Padres Monday released their schedule for the 2020 60-game regular season.According to the Padres, the team will play 40 games against National League West rivals and 30 Interleague games against American League West.The team says it will open the season at home with a four-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks starting Opening Day, July 24.RELATED: San Diego Padres player tests positive for coronavirus as team begins Summer Camp at Petco Park“As part of Interleague play in 2020, the Texas Rangers (August 19-20), Houston Astros (August 21-23), Seattle Mariners (August 25-27) and Los Angeles Angels (September 22-23) will all make the trip to America’s Finest City. This will mark just the second appearance at Petco Park for the Astros since joining the American League and the third visit to Petco Park for the Angels,” the team said.“For Interleague road contests, the Padres will visit Texas (August 17-18), Los Angeles (September 1-2), Oakland (September 4-6) and Seattle (September 18-20). The club’s visit to Texas’ Globe Life Field will be its first to the brand-new ballpark.”Three of the team’s four home weekends will be against National League West opponents, including a total of two weekend series against the Diamondbacks and one against the Giants. The Astros will round out the home weekend schedule.This year on Labor Day, the Padres will host the Rockies. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The San Diego Registrar of Voters is revising down its expected turnout numbers for the March primary from earlier projections. With an estimated 290,000 ballots still outstanding as of Thursday evening, turnout is now expected to fall between 47 and 52 percent of the county's registered voters. This means turnout will look similar to 2016's primary, which had about 50 percent participation. Original projections in January from the Registrar of Voters showed expectations of turnout between 55 and 60 percent. That number was revised in February to between 50 and 55 percent."It looks like turnout in this primary is about what it was in 2016 in San Diego," said professor Thad Kousser, department chair of the UC San Diego political science department. "We didn't see the spike we were expecting."However, Kousser points out that using turnout percentage can be misleading. Because of California's new Motor Voter law, there are more than 300,000 more registered voters in San Diego County than there were in 2016. Therefore, a matching 50 percent turnout would actually mean tens of thousands of new voters cast ballots in the 2020 primary. 1173

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego Unified School District and School Board President Kevin Beiser are holding a news conference Wednesday to discuss student safety in light of the Parkland shootings.The school officials will explain the district's plan to address the nationwide student-led walkout to protest government inaction to curb gun violence. President Beiser will also discuss a resolution he brought forth at Tuesday's Board of Education meeting demanding action from state and federal officials to reduce access to certain firearms. During the news conference, officials asked lawmakers in Sacramento to implement a 10 percent tax on firearms in California to help fund school safety programs. Watch the news conference in the player below:  785
