(KGTV) - Scientists at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography say atmospheric rivers will be the main source of California's rainfall over the next 80 years.The study, released Tuesday morning, says that could lead to more flooding, more drought and longer wildfire seasons."This region is becoming more sub-tropical and the dry season is expanding," says Alexander Gershunov, a research meteorologist at Scripps. "That is the case with all of the Mediterranean climate regions around the world."Right now, the study says California gets 40-50% of its annual rainfall from atmospheric rivers. Those are long, drawn out rain events that last for days. "The mountains squeeze the rain out of them.""In California, most of the floods, historically, are associated with atmospheric rivers," says Gershunov. (KGTV) – An investigation was launched after at least one bullet struck a car traveling on state Route 94 in the Lemon Grove area.The California Highway Patrol said the incident was reported at around 3:30 a.m. on the eastbound side of SR-94, near College Avenue.According to CHP officials, the 63-year-old driver of a Cadillac CTS said he noticed a black or dark-colored sedan driving behind him for several miles prior to the gunfire.The Cadillac’s driver said the vehicle pulled up to his side and then shots were fired, shattering the driver’s side rear window.The vehicle continued on eastbound SR-94 as the Cadillac pulled over. ABC 10News learned the driver called 911 after the bullet came through the rear driver side window and lodged in the passenger side pillar.The driver was not injured.CHP shut down the right two lanes of the SR-94 from Lemon Grove to Federal Blvd for a few hours as part of their investigation. 956

(CNS) - A man was in custody Wednesday following his arrest for allegedly killing a fellow patient at Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, where both men were being treated for COVID-19, authorities said.Jesse Martinez, 37, was booked on suspicion of murder and his bail was set at million, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.Martinez has been charged with murder, a hate crime enhancement, and elder abuse, according to the sheriff's department, which reported that he is scheduled to appear in Antelope Valley Court on Monday.The crime occurred about 9:45 a.m. Dec. 17 at the facility, where both men were being treated for COVID-19, the sheriff's department reported."(The victim) was housed in a two-person room inside the hospital with the suspect, who was also there receiving treatment," a sheriff's department statement said. "The suspect became upset when the victim started to pray. He then struck the victim with an oxygen tank."The name of the 82-year-old victim, who died the following day, was withheld, pending notification of his relatives.The victim and suspect did know one another, the sheriff's department reported. 1188

Now grown to 131 countries and 7,600 centers, almost every ZIP code has a branch. The need this year, the commissioner says, is like a tsunami.“In a typical year, the Salvation Army will serve about 52 million meals, for example. So far this year, we’re well over 110 million meals. The numbers have shot up astronomically,” Hodder said.The organization has provided 1.5 million more nights of shelter in addition to 900,000 instances of emotional and spiritual support.“As eviction moratoriums start to expire, as corporate capabilities to support people with furloughs or reduced hours decline, we’re anticipating a 155 % increase in the number of people coming to the Salvation Army for Christmas assistance,” Hodder said.And, with the coronavirus pandemic, the Salvation Army decided to get creative.
