(KGTV) - A first-grade teacher at Sycamore Canyon Elementary has found a creative way to stay in touch with her students while everyone is staying home during the coronavirus Pandemic.Sarah Lathers is filming herself reading stories to her daughter, and then posting it online."I just think about my kiddos a lot, and I do miss them a lot more than I anticipated I would already," she says. "I care so much about their education and them as people. The idea of putting story time online seemed like an easy way to let her school kids know she was thinking about them.The videos already have hundreds of views. They get tears in their eyes, at times remembering stories in class. Sayfullo Saipov has been charged with federal terrorism offenses in connection with Tuesday's attack in Manhattan in which eight people were killed, according to a charging document from the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York.Saipov, a 29-year-old Uzbek national who was living in New Jersey, is being charged with providing material support to ISIS and violence and destruction of motor vehicles.[Previous story, published at 5:13 p.m. ET]The suspect in New York's deadliest terror attack since 9/11 had planned the attack for weeks and carried out the killings "in the name of ISIS," John Miller, NYPD deputy commissioner for intelligence and counterterrorism, said on Wednesday.Authorities identified the suspect as Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, a 29-year-old Uzbekistan native who came to the US legally in 2010. Saipov allegedly drove a rented truck onto a well-trafficked bike path just blocks from the World Trade Center on Tuesday afternoon.Eight people were killed and more than a dozen injured as the driver carved a path of destruction through several blocks of Lower Manhattan. Saipov crashed the rented truck into a school bus, left the vehicle brandishing imitation firearms and was shot by police, officials said. He survived and was taken into custody, police said.In carrying out the attack, Saipov relied on the playbook laid out by ISIS in recent years, officials said. SAN ONOFRE (CNS) - Authorities Thursday were searching for a hit-and-run motorist who struck and killed a pedestrian on Interstate 5 in the far northern reaches of San Diego County.Dispatchers received a call shortly before 6:40 a.m. from a person who reported seeing a body off of southbound Interstate 5 just south of Cristianitos Road, California Highway Patrol Officer Kevin Smale said.Officers responded to the area and found a pedestrian lying near the highway, Smale said, adding that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.No details about the victim or the vehicle involved were immediately available.Officers shut down the onramp from Cristianitos Road to southbound I-5 and the right two lanes of southbound I-5 north of Basilone Road to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash.Anyone with information regarding the crash was asked to call the Oceanside CHP office at (760) 643-4300. 921

(KGTV) - Customs and Border Protection closed three lanes of traffic heading into the United States from Mexico Tuesday morning.In a statement, CBP said it was “to install and pre-position port hardening infrastructure equipment in preparation for the migrant caravan.”One lane of traffic was also closed at the Otay Mesa port of entry.It comes as active-duty troops have been working to add barricades and fencing as part of “Operation Secure Line.”On Tuesday, troops could be seen moving barriers covered with barbed wire along the border, periodically closing the southbound lanes into Mexico.In their statement, CBP officials warned “persons traveling northbound to the U.S. anticipate possible increased wait times because of the lane closures.”Even before the lanes were closed, wait times of six to seven hours had been reported at peak times in the standard lanes. Part of that was due to traffic control by authorities on the Mexican side.Travel as a pedestrian, however, has not appeared to be affected.Rebecca Fodor walked across Tuesday night and said it only took a few minutes. She said she did notice armed troops in camouflage uniforms.“It didn’t really change anything. I think they were just watching for anything suspicious,” she said.The lane closures will remain in effect indefinitely. (KGTV) - Viral cellphone video shows how things turned ugly when a Starbucks customer was asked to put on her mask in Santee.On Sunday afternoon, at a Starbucks on North Magnolia, 19-year-old barista Alex Beckom says a female customer in a blue top pulled down her 'Trump 2020' mask to ask a question. Beckom says she asked the customer to put on the mask, which she did, before becoming agitated and took it off again. That's when another customer told ABC 10News he started recording."I'm not gonna listen to anything you say to me, when you talk to me like that," the customer is heard saying."Okay, that's fine, but next time when you come in I'm going to need you to keep your mask on," responds Beckom in the video."I told her that, so if she ever came back, the customer and staff would be protected," says Beckom.Moments later, the customer served up a different motive."And I know it's because you're discriminating against me, because I'm a Trump supporter. F*** Black Lives Matter,' said the customer."If she thinks she’s being discriminated against, that’s on her. I never brought up anything about he politics ... I wasn't even angry. I was just like, "Why is this happening?" said Beckom.The customer became even more upset, when Beckom reminded her to wear her mask if she comes in again."No, it's not a law.
