ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — A central Florida sheriff says his deputies won't be allowed to wear face masks except under some conditions, and neither will visitors to the sheriff's office.Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods made the announcement on the week that Florida had some of its highest days of coronavirus deaths.“In light of the current events when it comes to the sentiment and/or hatred toward law enforcement in our country today, this is being done to ensure there is clear communication and for identification purposes of any individual walking into a lobby,” he wrote in a statement.Sheriff Woods said working mask-free hasn’t led to a spike of infections in his 900-person department. “Since the beginning of this pandemic the operation of this office has not changed and no wearing of masks has been put in place,” he said in a statement to the Washington Post.On Wednesday, state health officials reported 212 new deaths from COVID-19.Also on Wednesday, there more than 8,100 new infections reported, for a total of 550,000 cases in the state since the pandemic started. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in July asked Americans to wear masks to help stop the spread of the new coronavirus. This story originally reported by Tamara Lush, Mike Schneider and The Associated Press. 1315

Special counsel Robert Mueller's investigators met with members of President Donald Trump's legal team on the same day that the FBI was launching a raid targeting the President's personal attorney, according to sources familiar with the matter. The timing of the Monday raid made for an awkward meeting, which had been previously scheduled as part of preparations for a possible interview between the President and Mueller's team.Jay Sekulow, who leads the President's legal team, did not comment on the timing of the meeting."We do not discuss conversations we have had or have not had with the special counsel," he said. The raid on Cohen's home, hotel room and office brings the Mueller investigation deep inside the President's inner circle -- Cohen has worked with Trump for years and is treated as a confidant and a member of his family.A source close to the President said there have been ongoing negotiations between Mueller's team and the President's legal team for a potential interview, but the raid on the President's personal attorney has upended those discussions. CNN reported last week that members of the legal team have been informally prepping the President for a possible interview, though no decision on the matter has been made. The President's anger over the raid as well as a new assessment of what the implications of the raid could be for Cohen's most prominent client, Trump, are factors that the President's legal team has to take into account. 1477

SOLANA BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) - Solana Beach is one of San Diego County's most expensive places to live, but it has no affordable housing. Now, the City Council may pursue turning a part of the City Hall parking lot into a 19-unit mixed-use affordable housing complex. The council could vote Wednesday to issue a request for proposals for development of the site, with the hopes of selecting a company to build it by September. City Hall, by the way, is across the street from steps that lead to its famous beaches. "It'd be like winning the lottery," said Christian McDonough, one of the hundreds of people who work in Solana Beach's tourist-facing businesses, but can't afford to live there. "If you're in the service industry, you're most likely not living in Solana Beach."This would be the city's second attempt to add affordable housing. In 2014, the council approved a 10-unit complex called The Pearl, down the block from City Hall. It is still awaiting financing after surviving a legal challenge, developer Ginger Hitzke said.Richard Earle, who rented a blufftop condo for more than a month, said he supports the idea of affordable housing, but said it wouldn't solve the larger problem."It's going to turn into a gong show for 5,000 applicants and we're going to say, here's the lucky 20," Earle said. Zillow reports that the average rent in Solana Beach is ,837 a month, up 4.7 percent from a year ago.    1459
