San Diego (KGTV)- Homes and businesses aren't the only things being affected by power shut-offs Thursday. Traffic lights are also out, and it's causing a lot of confusion for drivers. Just before 10 a.m., a crash happened at the intersection of Poway Road and Highway 67, where the traffic lights had no power. A car slammed into the side of an SUV. Good Samaritans ran through traffic to assist and call 911. Both drivers are expected to be okay. Hours earlier, traffic backed up for about half a mile during the morning rush hour. Drivers were confused about their turn to go. "A lot of these people have been coming to this intersection for 30-plus years," says Deputy Nicholas McGregor. "They have an expectation that when they get here, it's going to be smooth, flow traffic. So when the lights go out, I think it's a hazard."Wednesday night, a car rammed into the back of a truck after power was shut off at the intersection of Scripps Poway Parkway and Highway 67. The car burst into flames moments after the crash.The Sheriff's Department says there are only about two hours of battery life on the traffic lights after the power is shut off. Deputies try to put as much signage out for drivers but say they should remain cautious. 1247

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Patients were reunited with the men and women who care for them on Saturday at The Heart Institute at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego. The event marked the 34th annual Heart Party. Hundreds of young heart patients and their families showed up for games, gifts and fun. Upstairs, doctors and nurses were caring for a couple newborns who had received heart transplants. For one baby to receive a heart, another has to give it. At just four months old, Zoey has taken part in the Lifesharing program.  553

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)-- Three healthcare-related offices were burglaries early Thursday morning, where criminals got away with cash and prescription pills. At 2:00 am, San Diego Police Officers arrived at the Cos-medic Inc. Plastic Surgery Clinic in Bankers Hill, to find a smashed glass window. They said burglars got away with an unknown amount of money. At 4:15 am, dispatchers sent officers to the Kaiser Permanente Pharmacy in Clairemont Mesa, after the front door was broken in. Nothing was taken. Just 20 minutes later, police said criminals shattered the back glass window at the Carmel Valley Pharmacy. The owners immediately contacted the local Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to notify that the burglars took 600 tablets of Adderall, worth up to ,000 in street value. "This is one of the drugs we see that are highly abused by high school and college students...What they perceive to be a study-aid," DEA Special Agent in Charge, Colin Ruane said. The Schedule-2 narcotic often lands in the hands of our youth, which can have deadly consequences. "In this country, we lose 70,000 people who die of drug overdoses every year," Special Agent Ruane said. "This is just another symptom of the major problem and the major addiction issue we have in the country. They wouldn't be stealing these drugs if there wasn't somebody willing to buy them."San Diego police said there appeared to be no connection between the burglary at the plastic surgery office and the others. However, after our inquiry, the Department said they are working with the DEA to look for a possible connection between the two pharmacy burglaries. They are also helping the owners get back on their feet."We will give them suggestions on additional security measures, make sure they are in compliance," Special Agent Ruane said. San Diego (KGTV)- With no warning, a light pole came crashing down on top of a car in Pacific Beach. Neighbors are worried that what they found could shine a light on a bigger problem. “It’s really scary that you can be walking down the street and something could fall out of the sky like that,” says neighbor Kevin Payne. Payne says he was walking in the area on Saturday, along Ingraham Street and Reed Avenue when he heard the loud crash. He says a San Diego lifeguard, who was driving by, stopped to section off the area until crews arrived. The base of the pole is filled with corrosion and rust. Neighbors say to the human eye it would have been tough to spot. “You wouldn’t notice just walking by, you would need to take off the cover of the base,” says Payne. “I think once you took the cover off it would have been clear as day.”In a statement to 10News, the city didn’t pinpoint the cause of the collapse but says the light is scheduled to be replaced this week. In the meantime, city crews will assess the other lights in the area to ensure they are “functional and stable.” The owner of the damaged car was not inside at the time. The city says she will need to make a claim with the Risk Management Department to determine who is liable. 1259
