Cathedral High School in Indianapolis announced the official name change of its entrepreneurship course to the "Chris Beaty Entrepreneurship Class."Chris Beaty was an Indianapolis business owner and former Indiana University football player who was beloved in the community.Beaty was one of two men who were shot and killed when violence erupted during police brutality demonstrations in Downtown Indianapolis. He was 38."There was so much pain caused by Chris's tragic murder, I felt it was too narrow to hear him only referred to as a former Cathedral and IU football player," Alex Purvis, who played football with Beaty at Cathedral High School in the early 2000's, said. "Chris was so much more than that, and I want to do my part to make sure his legacy continues at Cathedral."Purvis spearheaded the initiative to make the name change of the private school's entrepreneur course because he wanted to make sure Beaty was known for more than just football. Purvis says Beaty was not only an entrepreneur but says he was a friend, he was compassionate, and he always made people feel welcomed."He made everyone feel like a VIP. Few people have that ability," Purvis said.Purvis only knew Beaty for one year at Cathedral — but that was enough for Beaty to make an impact on Purvis.Purvis described himself as, "the smallest kid on the football team" his sophomore year, and Beaty was a senior star-athlete."Years later, when I started running into Chris downtown and various events, Chris always made me feel like I was the star quarterback on Cathedral's team. For no other reason than that was his genuine personality—he made people feel special. His warmth and positivity was infectious," Purvis said.Purvis said to best #LiveLikeChris, it's fitting to name Cathedral's entrepreneurship class in Beaty's honor. Beaty was always working on "the next big thing," Purvis said."I think the root of entrepreneurship is having the ability to take an idea and outlining the steps to make it happen," Purvis said. "That's exactly what Chris did. He was a doer, a leader, and a builder—his friends turned into business partners and vice versa."Both Cathedral High School and Indiana University have also created the "Chris Beaty Foundation Scholarship," in his honor."Using that foundation and exploring entrepreneurship in high school will hopefully open students' eyes to all of the possibilities they have in college and beyond. Students should know they are capable of creating their path, just like Chris Beaty did," Purvis said. "And they should know that they, too, have what it takes to live like Chris. CARMEL — The pastor of a Catholic church in Carmel, Indiana, is facing scrutiny after he compared Black Lives Matter demonstrators to "maggots and parasites" in a since-deleted post on the church's website.Bishop Timothy L. Doherty of the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana said Father Theodore Rothrock of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church should issue a clarification of the post Rothrock wrote Sunday in a weekly message. The group Carmel Against Racial Injustice called on Doherty to remove Rothrock from his position."The only lives that matter are their own and the only power they seek is their own," Rothrock wrote. "They are wolves in wolves clothing, masked thieves and bandits, seeking only to devour the life of the poor and profit from the fear of others. They are maggots and parasites at best, feeding off the isolation of addiction and broken families, and offering to replace any current frustration and anxiety with more misery and greater resentment."Rothrock continued, writing that, "We must stand in solidarity with our brethren across the world to oppose this malevolent force."He also questioned if Frederick Douglass and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would have marched in today's demonstrations and criticized the removal of monuments."Black Lives Matter, Antifa, and the other nefarious acolytes of their persuasion are not the friends or allies we have been led to believe," Rothrock wrote. "They are serpents in the garden, seeking only to uproot and replant a new species of human made in the likeness of men and not in the image of God. Their poison is more toxic than any pandemic we have endured."The post has been deleted from the church's website, however, an archive of the message was captured on the Internet Archive.Doherty said in a written post on the website of the Diocese of Lafayette-of-Indiana that he expects Rothrock to explain his message."I neither approved nor previewed that article," Doherty said. "Pastors do not submit bulletin articles or homilies to my offices before they are delivered. I expect Father Rothrock to issue a clarification about his intended message. I have not known him to depart from Church teaching in matters of doctrine and social justice."The group Carmel Against Racial Injustice called on Doherty to remove Rothrock as a priest and require training and education for priests and deacons on systemic racism and diversity. They also invited parishioners of the church, members of the community and other religious leaders to denounce Rothrock's statements."Carmel Against Racial Injustice is disgusted and shocked by the recent letter written by Father Theodore Rothrock," the group said in a statement. "We are also deeply saddened by the fact that the church leadership did not condemn the statement and saw fit to allow its publication. Bulked-up, mutant “mighty mice” held onto their muscle during a monthlong stay at the International Space Station, returning to Earth with ripped bodybuilder physiques, scientists reported Monday.The findings hold promise for preventing muscle and bone loss in astronauts on prolonged space trips like Mars missions, as well as people on Earth who are confined to bed or need wheelchairs.A research team led by Dr. Se-Jin Lee of the Jackson Laboratory in Connecticut sent 40 young female black mice to the space station in December, launching aboard a SpaceX rocket.In a paper published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Lee said the 24 regular untreated mice lost considerable muscle and bone mass in weightlessness as expected — up to 18%.But the eight genetically engineered “mighty mice” launched with double the muscle maintained their bulk. Their muscles appeared to be comparable to similar “mighty mice” that stayed behind at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center.In addition, eight normal mice that received “mighty mouse” treatment in space returned to Earth with dramatically bigger muscles. The treatment involves blocking a pair of proteins that typically limit muscle mass.A SpaceX capsule brought all 40 mice back in good condition, parachuting into the Pacific off the California coast in January. Some of the ordinary mice were injected with the “mighty mice” drug after returning and quickly built up more muscle than their untreated companions, Lee said.The scientists completed the experiment just as the coronavirus was hitting the U.S.“The only silver lining of COVID is that we had time to write it up very intensively” and submit the results for publication, said Dr. Emily Germain-Lee of Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, Lee’s wife who also took part in the study. (KGTV) -- Police in Carlsbad are investigating following an apparent murder-suicide Tuesday afternoon.Police were contacted by the family of a man who reportedly said he had killed his wife around noon Tuesday.Investigators discovered that the man was driving around the southern part of Carlsbad in his car.When officers found the vehicle they discovered a deceased 89-year-old passenger and a deceased 92-year-old driver inside.At this time, the circumstances surrounding the incident are unclear.
