TEMPE, AZ — A train has caught fire after a derailment on a railroad bridge over Tempe Town Lake.The incident occurred around 6 a.m. local time on the south side of the lake near Mill Avenue.A spokesperson with Tempe Fire Department says the incident involves a Union Pacific train that derailed and caused a partial bridge collapse over Tempe Town Lake.About 90 firefighters from multiple departments are at the scene of the second-alarm hazardous materials response.A Union Pacific spokesperson says eight to 10 rail cars caught fire and three tank cars fell onto an empty park area below.The spokesperson says two tank cars contained cyclohexanone and one contained a rubber material. None are believed to be leaking and no tank cars were involved in the fire.One person was reportedly treated for smoke inhalation, but the train crew is not injured. No other injuries have been reported.The Phoenix region's Valley Metro says light rail trains are not crossing Tempe Town Lake at this time due to the fire. From electronics to clothes, the National Retail Federation is tracking buying trends as the new school year approaches."Parents may not know how their children are attending classes, whether it’s in-person or online, a mix, and that is certainly reflected in how people are shopping right now. So, when we did our study in early July most consumers did not know what they needed to buy yet," said Katherine Cullen, the Senior Director for Industry and Consumer Insights at the National Retail Federation. She says there's a lot of uncertainty surrounding the upcoming school year and most consumers are hesitant to buy back to school supplies right now, but many already have plans to spend more."For grade school and high school shoppers it is over 0 on average which is about 0 more than last year. So, some of that is definitely being driven by this current environment and it's shaping how people are planning to buy right now," said Cullen. Cullen says consumers will likely spend more than last year on school supplies and just as much on new clothes. She said there are some things kids need no matter where they learn. "Kids keep growing even if they're not going to school in person, they will likely still need some new items."But the big ticket items families will be spending money on is electronics. "We are certainly seeing that many families, over half, are expecting there will be at least some online learning component and as a result they're planning to make some extra purchases around that: laptops, computers, head phones and speakers are a big component of that," said Cullen.The National Retail Federation says grade school and high school shoppers plan to spend more on average on electronics. Amy Cunningham, a parent in South Carolina, says her family decided to purchase two laptops to help their children with online remote learning this fall. State Superintendent Tony Evers defeated incumbent Gov. Scott Walker and will become the next governor of Wisconsin. Evers, a Democrat, won with 50 percent of the vote over the Republican governor Walker. The two were locked in a tight race, with the latest Marquette University Law poll showing the race at a dead heat. Walker has served as Wisconsin’s governor since 2011. Walker and Evers traded barbs over a number of topics, including healthcare. Another 16 people in Butte are listed as missing.The fires in Northern and Central California are so prevalent that the smoke and debris turned the sky over San Francisco bright orange on Wednesday evening.The New York Times reports that two people were found dead in a vehicle in connection with a wildfire just east of Salem, Oregon. Sheriff Joe Kast of Marion County, Oregon, told The Times that he feared officials could discover more bodies as rescue efforts continue. A third fatality in the stat was recorded about four hours south of Salem in the town of Ashland.Officials told The Times that the fatality in Washington was a 1-year-old boy who was killed by the Cold Springs Fire, which is currently burning in the northeast part of the state.According to USA Today, there are wildfires currently burning in 13 Western states.
