SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — SeaWorld's newest roller coaster is set to open just in time for the summer. The park's Tidal Twister roller coast will welcome its first riders on May 24, after breaking ground just last October. Tidal Twister joins the park's other coasters, Electric Eel and Manta, in offering a different theme park experience than what SeaWorld is traditionally known for.The roller coast zips riders ahead at 30 miles per hour, before twisting and turning along a figure-8 track and through a Zero-G roll in the center of the ride, 16 feet above the ground.RELATED:New dive coaster 'Mako' coming to SeaWorld in 2020SeaWorld San Diego announces Tidal Twister coaster, annual pass programSeaWorld's new Electric Eel roller coaster opens to the publicDueling trains will race past one another on the horizontal track with riders sitting both backward and forward. The coaster doesn't brush education off to the side, though. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Some business owners in downtown San Diego claim a new bike lane on 6th Avenue is hurting their ability to operate.“We’re having a lot of issues with loading,” said Bon Pinak, the general manager of Thosakan, a Thai restaurant on 6th Ave.The new protected bike lane was placed along the curb. All the parking on the east side of the street was removed, as well as most of the loading zone.Only two spots were left for vehicles. Posted signs say they can be used for 20 minutes for commercial loading until 6 p.m. After 6 p.m., it turns into three-minute passenger loading.“I got a ticket three days ago,” said Remzi Kaval, owner of the Coffee and Talk cafe on 6th.He said he was unloading some supplies in one of the spaces, but it was after 6 p.m.“We don’t have any space where we can park.”The new protected bike lanes have been installed in various places across the City recently. Both as an attempt to make biking safer but also to meet the City’s climate action goals.“It’s great. I don’t have to worry about getting hit,” said Jordan Green, who bikes through the area regularly.“Protected bikeways provide a safe, designated space for cyclists, keeping sidewalks clear for pedestrians,” wrote a spokesperson for the City of San Diego. As for the particular block between B Street and C Street, the City did not indicate any interest in changing the layout.“A small number of curbside loading zone spaces were removed from this block on the east side of 6th Avenue, but there are yellow loading zones available farther up and down 6th Avenue and on adjacent streets. Drivers are encouraged to follow posted signage,” wrote the City. 1664

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - SeaWorld is seeing an unusually large number of sea lion rescues along the local coastline this winter."Most of those rescued are coming in emaciated and dehydrated," said Jennifer Zarate, SeaWorld Senior Animal Care Specialist.Zarate says since early December, SeaWorld has rescued 25 sea lions along the coastline."Definitely a little concerning," said Zarate. That is about three times the amount they normally see. Usually, rescue season begins in March, so these rescues are coming early. Those needing rescuing this winter are younger than normal, less than two years old. The cause is a mystery, but Zarate says those early winter storms could be playing a role. The big swells may be tiring the pups out, causing them to burn too many calories. The weather may also be impacting their food sources.."The winter storms may be pushing schools of fish out further than seal lion pups can get to. That's probably the reason why they might not find as much fish as they normally would," said Zarate. After being rescued by SeaWorld, the pups now doing well. So far, medical tests haven't turned up anything else unusual. The pups are gaining back weight as expected. Next week, the first three of those recently rescued will be released.SeaWorld says the coastline in Orange County has also seen an increase in sea lion rescues. SeaWorld says it will be prepared for a big rescue season if needed. If you see an animal in need of rescue, SeaWorld says keep your distance and call their rescue hotline at 1-800-541-SEAL. 1547
