(AP) — Hundreds of protesters rallied outside the state Capitol on Saturday to protest against California's stay-at-home orders even as residents entered the Memorial Day weekend with newly expanded options for going to the beach, barbecuing and shopping. Riding in vehicles after the pandemic could look different for a while. Ridesharing company Lyft will be distributing partitions to drivers as they make changes to address the COVID-19 pandemic and CDC guidelines.In a blog post Friday, Lyft said they are establishing new health and safety standards, including riders and drivers certifying they are symptom-free, wearing masks throughout the ride, and vehicle partitions.Partitions have been available to identified frequent Lyft drivers and those in the company’s Express Drive rental program in Atlanta, Denver and Baltimore. They will be coming to other large cities next before being rolled out to 60,000 drivers in the coming months. Some drivers will receive partitions for free, others will be able to purchase one from Lyft. That's why most social media companies, including Facebook, already ban children under 13 from creating accounts.Democratic Sen. Henry Stern says the bill will protect children. But Democratic Sen. Robert Davis, 70, faces criminal charges after he was caught in South Florida allegedly using a device that concealed his license plate while driving past toll stations, WPLG-TV reported. For the last 18 months, social media users have been posting videos of a Chrysler van driving past toll stations with a concealed license plate. Until last week, Florida Highway Patrol was unable to find the van. But on Saturday, an off-duty Florida Highway Patrol officer finally spotted the van near Homestead, Fla. "I kind of realized that is the guy and I had to call it in," Lieutenant Alejandro Camacho told WPLG. "And then troopers came and stopped him and made an arrest. "Florida Highway Patrol officials allege that Davis used a remote control that drops a cover over the license plate to conceal the license plate. It is unclear how many times Davis allegedly used the device. Davis was arrested on charges of organized fraud, cheating and petty theft, WPLG said.  1006

Newsom says he believes children learn best in the classroom and his administration will support districts with personal protective gear and testing resources so they can safely reopen. His administration has approved more than 1,200 requests for waivers to allow for in-person education for elementary school students in counties where coronavirus cases remain widespread.
