The ceremony took place in the East Room -- the same location where the President first announced Kavanaugh's nomination 13 weeks ago.Kavanaugh was confirmed by the Senate on Saturday, earning 50 "yes" votes -- the fewest for any Supreme Court justice in the modern era. The process was marred accusations of sexual assault and misconduct dredged up weeks before senators cast their votes. He denied all the allegations.Earlier Monday, Trump claimed the accusations against Kavanaugh were a "hoax set up by the Democrats." He also blamed "evil" people for putting Kavanaugh in a "disgraceful situation" during his confirmation process. The President had at one point previously been conciliatory toward Christine Blasey Ford, who testified before Congress alleging that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her. Trump, at the time of the testimony, called Ford a "good witness" and said he respected her position very much.Kavanaugh was administered the official Constitutional Oath and Judicial Oath by Chief Justice John Roberts and retired Justice Anthony Kennedy shortly after being confirmed by the Senate. The latest justice to join the bench, Neil Gorsuch, spoke last year during his swearing-in at the White House Rose Garden. Justice Samuel Alito spoke at his swearing-in as well. However, Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan did not offer remarks during their respective swearing-in ceremonies, opting, instead, to speak at receptions with then-President Barack Obama regarding their appointments. 1503

The baby's mother, 30-year-old Burgandie Marquez, was arrested Saturday afternoon by detectives with the Crimes Against Children Unit.On Tuesday night, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office charged Marquez with first-degree murder.During an interview, Marquez gave contradicting statements before admitting she was too "rough" with her son, according to detectives.Marquez told authorities that on Thursday, after she became enraged during a phone call with the baby's father, she intentionally jerked the 5-month-old up from the ground twice causing his head to snap backward. She told detectives she then picked the child up and ran up and down a set of stairs, allowing his head to bounce without support. On Friday morning, Marquez said she noticed the baby was having seizures. Detectives said instead of seeking medical attention, she tried consoling the baby.Later that day, Marquez traveled to Pasco County with the baby to meet with his father. She stopped at a gas station when his condition got worse and he was airlifted to St. Joseph's Hospital for life-threatening injuries.Staff at the hospital told detectives the child suffered a severe brain bleed caused by head trauma. The 5-month-old boy was placed on life support, but taken off of it Monday afternoon, according to detectives.Witnesses told detectives the baby appeared to be fine on Wednesday. Marquez was the infant's only caretaker between Monday and Friday, according to detectives.Marquez was arrested and taken to the Pinellas County Jail. This story was originally published on 1554

The day had started very differently when news broke that the Trump Administration rejected supplying aid to clean up areas destroyed by six of the state's wildfires, including the Valley Fire which burned Irving and Anita Beeman's home.“That makes me really mad,” Anita said, before the decision was announced to award the state emergency aid.On Friday morning, a White House spokesperson notified the New York Times in part that the president had already authorized more aid for the August fires. Spokesperson Judd Deere added to the NYT, "The more recent and separate California submission was not supported by the relevant data that States must provide for approval and the president concurred with the FEMA Administrator's recommendation.”The Valley Fire burned more than 16,000 acres in San Diego's East County. Much of the affected area was in the Cleveland National Forest, right by the Beemans' property. They had to leave before packing most everything, including a box holding the ashes of Anita's parents.Anita said they have fire insurance but still believe federal dollars should be allocated for cleanup. “That's not up to me to take care of the national forest. It's up to [the] federal government to take care of the national forest and make sure that people's houses have a big enough fire break so that it doesn't get near their houses,” added Anita. 1369

The event was free and open to the public. The concert was held at the Municipal Auditorium. TubaChristmas is an annual concert of holiday music played by tubas only. The idea started in the United States in 1974 as a way to honor renowned tuba player William Bell who was born on Christmas Day. The event came to Kansas City in 1981 and the symphony took over organizational operations in 2008. Byrne said in years past they've had more than 700 participants, but no representatives from Guinness to recognize the record. That changed this year. 559

The controversy over my emails quickly cast a shadow over our efforts and threw us into a defensive crouch from which we never fully recovered, Clinton writes. 159
