SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Rock Church is making holiday giving even easier, teaming up with Express Feedback for Good to raise money for their Toys for Joy campaign.Under the new program, people can sign up to take on-line surveys. For each one they take, the Church will get towards their holiday fundraiser."This is a life or death situation for some kids and some families," says Pastor Miles McPherson.The Toys for Joy program is now in its 23rd year. Each year the Church helps around 20,000 families with food, clothing, toys, and more for the holidays. McPherson says he hopes the new survey tool will inspire people to do more."The express feedback tool gives people the opportunity to do something to help somebody, but we want them to take the next step, touch a person, smile at a person, hear someone's story," he says.The surveys only take about one minute each, and there's a limit of 100 per person. The Church says they hope to raise 0,000 from the surveys, to help supplement the other donations they get each year.The company, Express Feedback for Good, takes the information from the survey and sells it to businesses to help them serve their customers better."It's a win/win for both parties," says Product Manager Dena Coykendall. "The non-profit can create resources, and business can collect information from a crowd that's more representative."This year, the Rock Church will have four locations for their Toys for Joy campaign on December 14th. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The woman who stole a car with two children inside before driving to the U.S-Mexico border in 2018 has been sentenced to 13 years in prison. Police say Leslie Esparanza Saenz, 27, stole a car with an 8-year-old and 3-year-old inside outside a Cricket Wireless store on the 200 block of Euclid Avenue April 9, 2018. According to police, the children’s father parked the gold Hyundai Excel outside the store and went into the business by himself, leaving the vehicle unlocked. Moments later, Saenz got into the car and drove off on Imperial Avenue. There, federal agents who had gotten a be-on-the-lookout bulletin regarding the auto theft and kidnapping took the driver - who was later identified as Saenz -- into custody without incident. Authorities then reunited the children, who had suffered no injuries during the ordeal, with their father and returned his car to him, Roman said. 1096

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The body of a 9-year-old boy swept away by a current in Rosarito on Easter Sunday has been found in Mexico.Authorities say the body of Erik Ochoa was found around 10 a.m. Thursday morning at San Antonio Del Mar.Ochoa lived in Tijuana with his stepfather while his sisters, Zusel and Hilary live in Chula Vista.RELATED: Family searches for boy swept away in Rosarito?Ochoa was with two other children walking on the beach in Rosarito when they were swept out to sea.One of the boys was able to make it out of the current and ran to get help. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego International Airport is making travel more accessible to blind and visually-impaired customers.They've partnered with San Diego startup Aira, a company which uses augmented reality to connect people with visual impairments to live agents.Through smart glasses or a smartphone camera, the agent becomes the customer's eyes, guiding them through the airport.While users typically pay a monthly Aira subscription, the service is now available free at select airports, helping customers through security, to restaurants, and baggage claim."My first time that I traveled alone after losing my vision, I was a wreck, I mean a wreck," said Maria Johnson, who became legally blind as an adult.“The thing about having Aira with you when traveling is you always have somebody with you," said Johnson.Johnson has a rare mitochondrial disease and started losing her vision six years ago. Shortly after her 50th birthday, she was legally blind. “I’m a mom, I have two kids, I’m a group fitness instructor, I was running a boot camp and running classes all over San Diego, and all of a sudden this happened," said Johnson.Johnson has used adaptive technologies like Aira to adjust to her new reality but admits it was difficult to ask for help in the beginning.“The beauty of it is that’s what the agent is there for, no job is too small or too big for an Aira agent," said Johnson.The Aira agent not only can see where the customer is but has access to an airport map.Airport officials say it's part of a broader mission to continue innovating at Lindbergh. 1591
