SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are searching for a hit-and-run suspect after a woman was struck and killed in Point Loma Sunday morning.According to police, the incident happened on the 1700 block of Rosecrans Street at 12:17 a.m.A witness told police that a woman was standing in one of the southbound lanes. When police arrived, the 52-yer-old woman had been hit by a vehicle.The woman died at the scene and police say the vehicle that struck her didn' remain in the area.  484

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Neighbors point to a devastating Northern California fire as their strongest case towards getting the latest housing development denied in East County.Dozens killed and home after home devastated by the Camp Fire in Paradise, Calif., last year."A fire here would cause massive casualties and probably burn into Chula Vista or San Diego," Peter Anderson, of the Sierra Club, said in front of the County Administration Building Wednesday.Neighbors and environmental advocates opposed to Otay Ranch Village 14 say the county needs to stop piling up hazards. Despite the protest, the county moved Wednesday to move forward with the project."This is a catastrophe in the making," Dan Silver, of the Endangered Habitats League, said. "There are tens of thousands of unbuilt units in good village locations, there is no need to put a project in such a dangerous location."Those opposed also believe evacuations would be an issue adding the infrastructure should go elsewhere.The locations for many of the new housing developments in San Diego have been called dangerous. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are asking for the public’s help identifying the driver they say struck and killed a pedestrian in Mission Hills Thursday before fleeing the scene.According to police, the 57-year-old man was struck by the vehicle while crossing the street on the 1300 block of West Washington Avenue just after midnight. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.Based on their investigation, police believe the suspect’s vehicle is a 2001-2002 Hyundai Sonata with damage to the headlamps or windshield.Anyone with information is asked to call the San Diego Police Department's Traffic Division at 858-495-7805 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.Crime stoppers is offering up to a ,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest. 758

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Most San Diego voters support a sales tax for public transit improvements, according to a study commissioned by the Metropolitan Transit System and the San Diego Association of Governments. Poll results released Wednesday show more than two-thirds of voters are in favor of a dedicated half-cent sales tax measure to raise revenue for new projects, FM3 Research reported. The City of San Diego’s current sales tax is 7.75 percent. 44 percent of those surveyed said they were “definitely yes” in favor of the sales tax measure. 23 percent voted “probably yes”. 19 percent said they were “definitely no” on a tax hike increase, according to the study.The poll results are the first step in a discussion between transit officials and the public that are expected to take place through the end of 2019. MTS will review public input and propose a spending and financing plan. “We have significant public interest in bringing fast, safe, reliable public transit to San Diego and the region,” said San Diego County Supervisor and MTS Board Member Nathan Fletcher. “It is time to reimagine how our region moves by working together to create a transit strategy that connects our communities, reduces congestion, provides more transportation options and builds the foundation for a cleaner, greener, more sustainable future. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - People who live near Mini Square Park in City Heights are fed up with what they say is a rise in crime and noise. They're calling for a curfew to be imposed at the park from 9 pm - 5 am."Every rule that's posted here is broken all day long and mostly all night long," says one woman who asked 10News not to identify her because she feels unsafe in her home next to the park. "I can get practically high from the marijuana that comes into my window cause it overlooks the park. The noise becomes just unbearable at times."The park opened in 2014, on 43rd Street in between Polk and University Avenue. Sitting between a senior center, an apartment complex and a health clinic, It was designed as a way to give adults in the community a gathering place.Instead, neighbors say it's been overrun with crime and drugs.A search of the website crimemapping.com shows 148 crimes reported within 1000 feet of the park over the last six months. That includes 21 stolen cars, 19 assaults and 16 robberies.It's gotten to the point where some people say they're afraid to walk by it, especially at night."Of course I would like to be in this park, to spend my free time there," says Isaac Musaazi, who lives in the apartment complex next door. "But I can't because of the people who are there."A community meeting to discuss a curfew and how to enforce it is scheduled for Thursday with the Community Parks Committee.
