Organizers say all safety protocols by the county will be strictly enforced. This year, customers must remain in their cars and everyone must wear a mask. "Hanukkah Happening Hits the Highway" is taking place on December 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The center has two car routes planned throughout the county where families travel to three different places to find Jewish landmarks and symbols. While in the car, there will be Hanukkah stories, music, games, and trivia shared. The event is free, but you will need to pre-register. Click here for details on the event.Petco Park Holiday Trail and MarketThe market and trail will take guests through a socially distanced, one-way trail at Petco Park's Gallagher Square, featuring artisan shops, lighting displays, foods and drinks, and unique crafts and gifts.Vendors on the trail will feature seasonal gifts like ornaments, wooden figurines, oils and soaps, and many more stocking stuffers. Visitors will be able to enjoy cider or wine, and delicious bratwurst, shortbread, and other treats along the way.Menorah Lighting in Liberty StationIn partnership with the Chabads of Downtown San Diego and Pacific Beach, Liberty Station plans to host a public menorah lighting on December 10 at 5 p.m. in the Central Promenade.La Mesa's Holidays in the Village La Mesa's Holiday in the Village returns on Dec. 5 from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. with a craft market, holiday music, a food court, and holiday photo stations. The free event will observe public health orders and precautions and temperature checks will be required to enter. Reddit user Kyle Clark spotted it in Ocean Beach on a Lime Bike. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The Martin Luther King Jr. Community Choir San Diego has filled the community with music, funded dreams, and kept African American history alive for three decades.The group started with a local alliance of ministers from different denominations who came together for an annual concert to raise funds for students aspiring to a career in visual and performing arts, according to the choir director Kenneth Anderson."I think they are woefully undervalued in our country the power of art and how it can connect and communicate and bring people together when we're so driven apart," 20-year choir member Dale Fleming said.In 1990, the singers decided to created the MLK Community Choir so they could sing year-round.Andersen said, "It was non-audition but somehow all of these different timbres and levels of musicianship come together to make a beautiful sound."The religious tone of the group has changed over the years. "Some don't really believe at all but we all believe in the power of music," Fleming said.They still sing gospel, and write their own hymns to keep Black history alive."A majority of the spirituals that survived were code songs. When they sang about leaders in the bible, especially Moses, but Jesus and God, that was code for Harriet Tubman," Anderson explained.The group has flourished, touring through seven countries, creating and selling CDs, even singing for Pope John Paul II at the Vatican in 2004. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The mother who reported her 3-year-old son missing in Linda Vista Tuesday morning has been arrested. According to police, Maria Flores was arrested for filing a false police report. Flores reported her son, Kevin Serrano, missing from a home in the 2500 block of Ulrich St. just after 10 a.m., according to San Diego Police.At 3:00 p.m., police reported the boy was found unharmed in the 7500 block of Mesa College Drive. Officers said the child's caregiver called them and said he had been dropped off in the morning.Flores told police that Kevin was last seen at home. Police deployed officers on foot, patrolling on motorcycles, and air resources to help search for Serrano.“This is highly unusual. We’re taking this extremely seriously," police said during a press conference. "The door was unlocked and closed, according to the mom ... The clock is ticking for us, we’re extremely worried." 952

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The four executive orders the president signed Saturday aimed at helping both working and unemployed Americans during the ongoing pandemic is not the most efficient way to help the nation, according to a local expert.Dr. Alan Gin, University of San Diego Professor of Economics at the Economics Research Center, said the national issue needs a national relief package, instead of an order that pulls from multiple pools, like the CARES Act and other emergency funds. Unfortunately, Congress is deadlocked in an ideals crisis.Dr. Gin said this order could delay funds for unemployed Americans because it complicates the process.News that frustrates people like Cindy Griffith who has been trying to get her benefits for five months.Griffith, a new mom to 17-month old Wilder, was laid off in March with her husband. They both worked in restaurants. "It's been a nightmare," she said. "I spent every day stressing about EDD, calling EDD." The judge ruled her paperwork was in order and she deserved her unemployment checks. That was three weeks ago and she hasn't seen a dime.Thankfully her husband's unemployment funds came through and supported them until they Solterra Winery and Kitchen hired them.When she heard about the president's Executive Order she didn't have much faith. "Spending five months fighting for my money, yeah it's great that that money will continue on if I do lose my job, yeah 0 a week will help, but I don't know if I'll see that money either so I'm just hoping my restaurant stays open."Twenty-five percent of the 0 a week for unemployed Americans is supposed to come from the state. In California, Dr. Gin says that's money we don't have, "tax revenues are down considerably with economic activity reduced, both the income tax and the sales tax." Dr. Gin added California has to have a balanced budget each year by law, but the federal government can borrow."Traditional macroeconomic theory says that should have a negative impact, whether on inflation or higher interest rates so far we haven't had either one," Dr. Gin said it could happen further down the road.The president if he is re-elected he would cut the payroll tax that funds the dwindling Social Security fund and Medicare.Dr. Gin said that is something Democrats and Republicans have been against, and "there's a question of whether or not the president can do that without congressional authorization."All of this affecting little Wilder's future, his parents still waiting and hoping for some financial relief."It wasn't until I got into my restaurant and could walk with cash every night you know? Besides that I'm just waiting so I'm still months behind. Yeah I'm just really lucky I was able to go back to work," Griffith said.She gave this advice to anyone suffering the same struggle she's facing, '"stay strong, hang in there and keep fighting for the money you deserve." 3147
