Anthony’s headstone will see something new this year: a plastic cover.Her headstone, in a cemetery in Rochester, New York, now has a shield to prevent further degradation to the marble from the stickers’ glue and the cleaners used to remove the stickers.The sticker trend became popular on Election Day 2016, when as many as 12,000 people visited the cemetery where Anthony is buried.A spring restoration effort had revealed the damage done to the marble marker.This year, WHAM reports that city officials have also marked off a pathway for visitor to follow so they don’t disrupt other gravesites. SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California has recorded a half-million coronavirus cases in the last two weeks, overwhelming hospitals in urban centers and rural areas. Gov. Gavin Newsom says a projection model shows California could have 100,000 hospitalizations in the next month. Mobile field hospitals are being set up outside facilities to supplement available bed space. At least three are being set up in the Los Angeles and Orange County area, which hit 0% ICU bed availability last week. Other "alternative care" facilities, as the governor refers to them, have been set up near Sacramento and along the Mexican border about 50 miles east of San Diego.“The ICU is at 105% capacity,” Orange County Supervisor Doug Chaffee said of St. Jude. “They’re using every available bed. The emergency department has an overflow ... All the Orange County hospitals are in the same situation. It is dire, so they’ll soon be erecting a tent in the parking lot, probably for triage. I think what we’re seeing is not a surge, but a tsunami.”The governor says he’s likely to extend his stay-at-home order for much of the state. He acknowledged the orders for the Southern California and San Joaquin Valley regions will probably be extended. The orders remain in place for three weeks, and are triggered when a region's available ICU bed capacity dips below 15%. Both of those regions, which combined cover 23 of 58 counties and the lower half of the state, have an ICU bed availability level of 0% according to the California Department of Public Health. SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A 60-year-old serial rapist in Northern California whose crimes went undetected for nearly three decades was sentenced to 897 years in state prison. The Sacramento Bee reported that Roy Charles Waller, dubbed the “NorCal Rapist,” showed no emotion Friday and sat with eyes closed during sentencing. He declined to address the victims or the court. A jury in Sacramento convicted Waller of raping nine women in their homes between 1991 and 2006 in six counties. Investigators used DNA technology and genealogy websites to zero in on Waller and arrested him more than two years ago. A woman raped in 2006 testified that the day Waller was arrested was the first time she could take a shower without fear. Waller says he is innocent. 764

Ronald Gasser will spend the next 30 years behind bars for shooting former NFL star Joe McKnight.Gasser faced up to 40 years in prison after his conviction of manslaughter in January of this year.He was arrested on a manslaughter charge Dec. 5, 2016, a few days after the shooting, and charged with killing McKnight at a busy intersection in Terrytown, Louisiana following a road rage incident.He was later indicted on a second-degree murder charge.During the trial, prosecutors painted Gasser as the aggressor in the deadly encounter.Today, Judge Ellen Kovach said the fatal road rage incident should serve as a cautionary tale.If Gasser and McKnight had disengaged, or if Gasser hadn’t decided to use his firearm, both could have walked away.“This tragedy did not need to happen,” Kovach said.The mother of Joe McKnight's son, Michelle Quick, yelled out that's "less than he deserves." And she cursed as she was escorted out of the courtroom. Quick and other family and friends read emotional, tear-filled impact statements before the sentencing.Joe Mcknight's mother, Jennifer McKnight spoke last. She stood in front of the courtroom and immediately started crying. She did not read from a paper. She looked right at Gasser, almost the entire time. She said when she found out she prayed "Lord not my child."She also told Gasser: "You took that part of me. You put pain on me I am not able to endure. I have to forgive you to have some sort of peace to live my life."Quick also took the stand. She says McKnight and her 7-year-old son Jayden -- called his Dad's phone after learning of his death. He left a voicemail. He asked his mom if dad could hear it from heaven. He asked if he could watch his dad's highlights on YouTube. When he went to watch a video, a clip of his dad's body on the ground came up. She did ask the judge for the maximum sentence of 40 years.Gasser gave no response. He sat in an orange jumpsuit, frequently looking down at his hands.Outside of the courtroom Jennifer McKnight told the press "He feels no remorse." 2050

Robert O'Brien, President Donald Trump's national security adviser, has tested positive for COVID-19, according to CNN and Bloomberg.Both CNN and Bloomberg report that O'Brien has been working from home since last week.It's unclear when the last time O'Brien met directly with the president, but CNN reports that their last public appearance together came on July 10.O'Brien is the highest-ranking member of the Trump administration to contract the coronavirus.
