(KGTV) - An innovative young baker from Mount Helix is raising money for Parkinson's disease research in honor of her beloved grandfather, who is battling the disease.As many have done during these unusual times, Zoe Bernard took on a popular pandemic hobby."I learned how to make banana bread," says the 9 year-old.As Zoe perfected the recipe, she felt like something was missing, so she started experimenting with different ingredients, getting more bold as her creations continued to receive rave reviews from friends and neighbors. She took custom orders, adding nuts, candy bar pieces and including a couple of secret ingredients. The warm reception led her to begin selling her creations, but not to pad her own pockets. She and her mother Tina Contogenis discussed what would be most beneficial. Zoe decided to donate her profits to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Disease research.Her "Papa" Joe Contogenis was diagnosed with the disease three years ago. The tough Marine is facing a difficult battle, with a tremor in his arm, and an increasing number of hard days.Zoe and Joe have a special relationship. Joe lives five houses down from Zoe. He describes her as "an incredible young person with the biggest heart."Their neighbors have caught on to Zoe's effort, adding items to sell at a bake sale last Saturday, or overpaying and refusing to take their change.Tina says they've been overwhelmed by the response. The AP has already projected Biden will win the presidential election. Meanwhile, Georgia remains uncalled at this time. The Associated Press has not projected a winner in that state and the margin between the two candidates remains at 0.3 percent in Biden's favor. A hand recount audit is underway currently. UPDATE 12:30 p.m. ET Tuesday, November 11: The Associated Press projects President Donald Trump will win Alaska, and take their 3 electoral college votes. This brings Trump up to 217 electoral votes and Joe Biden is still at 290. The AP projected Biden will win the presidential election.A recount in the presidential race will happen in Georgia, and North Carolina has still not been called for either candidate at this time. UPDATE Saturday 7 p.m. ET: The presidential race has still not been called in Georgia and North Carolina at this time. Trump leads in North Carolina by around 75,000 votes and Biden has a small lead in Georgia. Democrats will maintain majority in the House of Representatives. LEMON GROVE, Calif. (KGTV) — The mother of a 13-year-old boy killed crossing San Miguel Avenue in Lemon Grove may sue the city for not making the street safer.Tanya Harris, whose son Trevon died in May, filed a claim against the city of Lemon Grove for allegedly ignoring continuing issues on the two-lane road. On May 3, Trevon was crossing the street after visiting a friend's house when he was hit by a car and killed. Tanya and Trevon's brother, Ty, who is only nine, arrived to see him lifeless on the asphalt."When I came up on the road, I immediately saw the body on the road," Tanya said. "When I pulled over, I ran out because I knew it was my child's body that was on the ground."Tanya says Trevon had an infectious smile and had dreams of playing professional basketball. Tanya and Ty are now in grief counseling, which Tanya said is helping.Meanwhile, San Miguel Avenue remains a two-lane road, and the area Trevon was hit doesn't have any speed bumps or stop signs. That's the basis for the claim, which accuses the city of ignoring the risks for years. "It has gravel all over it, and divots and pots, which causes drivers to skid and slide" said Rhonda Holmes, an attorney representing Tanya Harris. "More importantly, people are known to speed down that road."Lemon Grove City Manager Lydia Romero said the city can't comment on pending litigation. The San Diego County Sheriff's Department said its traffic investigator found no fault on the part of the driver, and that Trevon darted out into traffic. Tanya wants the city of Lemon Grove to install speed bumps or stop signs by next month, when San Miguel Elementary School starts. LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) -- La Mesa, El Cajon, Poway, Santee and other local cities are among San Diego County cities to enforce a curfew Sunday night. A curfew will begin at 7 p.m. on May 31 and end at 7 a.m. on June 1 for the City of La Mesa. During that time, the city encouraged residents and visitors to shelter in place. The order was issued following a city council meeting at 9 a.m. Sunday. La Mesa's curfew will also be in effect from Monda at 7 p.m. to Tuesday at 5:30 a.m.National City has also imposed a curfew saying: "This curfew will be in effect starting today, May 31 from 8pm until tomorrow, June 1 at 5:30am. This means no one should be out in public on the streets in National City after 8pm. LAS VEGAS, Nevada — More changes could be coming to the "free drink" system in Las Vegas casinos.There is special technology on table-top machines, such as video poker, that monitors when you earn a comped drink. Now, gamblers may see it on slot machines, too.Ardent Progressive Systems and Games has already installed its technology on about 90 slot machines at The Riverside Resort in Laughlin.It's considered a trial run for a couple months to see how it goes."The hope now is, the trial down in Laughlin will be successful and then we've got several properties that are waiting to see the results of that and possibly implementing it in the near future up here in Las Vegas," said Albert Tabola with Ardent Progressive Systems and Games.The technology is a strip of LED lights that faces you while you play. Red means you're not ready for a drink. Green means you are ready for a drink. Yellow means you're getting close to qualifying for a drink. Orange means you're playing too slowly and falling off track."You will know as you play whether you qualify for a complimentary drink or not, as will the cocktail waitress," Tabola said.Players do not have to play max bet to qualify for a drink. They ust need to consistently play."The qualification levels on there are very, very low so this should not affect anybody that plays for the most part, at all," he said.
