SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Two more migrants were diagnosed with the flu in the county shelter downtown and one was sent to the hospital, according to Jose Alvarez Communications Specialist with the County of San Diego Communications Office.The flights have been landing at Lindbergh Field since May 14th, easing overcrowding in Texas detention centers.Border Patrol officials stated migrants are given a health screening in Texas before they travel to San Diego, and are screened again once they land.County Health officials stated a total of 31 migrants have been diagnosed with the flu since May 19, officials say. There they get another health screening and starting Thursday, everyone gets a mask and Tamiflu pill as a precaution to keep the sickness from spreading. The pill and a flu shot is offered to staff and volunteers at the shelter.As of Friday, extra nurses are coming into the shelter to check on the group and ensure no one else has come down with the flu.Those who are diagnosed go with their families to a hotel that has individual air units, so they don't spread the virus. They are educated on why they should stay in the room and, if they leave, what precautions to take so they don't infect others.Migrants in the shelter can come and go as they wish.Border Patrol stated migrants who exhibit flu-like symptoms are not allowed to fly and instead are given medical treatment in Texas. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two puppies soon to be up for adoption in San Diego are already capturing hearts around the world.Two 3-month-old terrier-blends, named Star and Denver, were taken to Helen Woodward Animal Center on Feb. 11 after their mother had been dumped in a rural location in Louisiana. They were taken by van about 1,900 miles through a partnership with the rescue group Heart of Louisiana.Once in San Diego, it wasn't long before staff learned about Star's unique challenges and special bond with her brother. The community came together to clean up the site.The intersection of Euclid and Imperial Avenues was once known as the "Four Corners of Death" because of the high crime, gang activity, and homelessness. Now the area is getting some long-overdue attention."I remember when that area was bustling with businesses and commerce," says Brian Pollard, President of the Urban Collaborative Project.Since 2017, the Urban Collaborative Project has been working with community members, the city, and county to clean up the area and find help for those living on the streets.Brian Pollard says there has been an increase in affordable housing in the area, but resources like healthcare and food are still limited."We're putting more people in here but not increasing the services that are needed to support these affordable housing units. Food is a very big issue."The group's first significant project was bringing the Food 4 Less, located in Market Creek Plaza, to Southeast San Diego years ago. This part of town has virtually no major grocery stores."Until we start acknowledging that and pumping resources and shifting priorities, we will never catch up," says Pollard.UCP hopes to redevelop the Lincoln Park area, near Euclid and Imperial Avenues, to see it thrive as it did years ago, inviting businesses to invest in the process.The group is planning a community clean up in the coming weeks to beautify the area. 1491

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Traffic was backed up throughout the day Monday in Clairemont after a crash involving several vehicles. The crash happened just before 1 p.m. on Balboa Avenue near Albertine Avenue. According to San Diego Police, a 59-year-old man driving west on Balboa Avenue hit a raised median and crossed into the eastbound lanes of traffic. Police say he then hit a Jeep Patriot, causing it to slam into a Honda Civic and a Jeep Cherokee. Police say the driver of the Jeep Patriot sustained a fractured femur and was taken to the hospital. Her passenger also complained of pain. No one else was injured. The 59-year-old driver of the Nissan Frontier was arrested for DUI drugs. 695
