SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Drivers in Torrey Highlands saw quite the sight as a hot air balloon landed in front of Westview High School Friday evening.A video circulating online shows traffic continuing to move around the balloon as it made a safe landing on Camino Del Sur.Lawrence and Andrea Sher said they are used to hot air balloons landing near their home on Bryn Glen Way, but said, this time, the hot air balloon was a bit too close for comfort. The couple said the balloon skimmed right over their roof just before 8 p.m. 532

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Hundreds of people packed the stands at the Coronado High School football field Friday, for a celebration of life in honor of Justin Meek.The Coronado High School graduate was one of the 12 people killed at the Thousand Oaks shooting on Nov. 7.The 23-year-old is remembered as a hometown hero, as he died helping protect others from the gunman’s bullets.RELATED: Coronado native among victims of the Thousand Oaks bar shootingMeek moved to Thousand Oaks to attend California Lutheran University. He worked at the Borderline Bar and Grill. Though he often worked as a security guard, the night of the shooting, he and his sister were working as promoters for ‘College Night’ events. When the gunshots started, Justin began helping people get out of harm's way. He was shielding them from gunfire when he was shot and killed. His sister made it out of the bar. The Meek family released a written statement that described Justin’s strong interest in the safety of others since Sept. 11. After college, Meek's family said he wanted to join the Coast Guard and then go on to become a U.S. Marshall. Meek’s mother served in the Air Force, his father served in the Navy, and he too felt a strong call to service.“Justin was a genuine, kind, loving, caring, compassionate, hardworking, talented man and a friend to everyone he met,” the statement reads. “He was a loving son, protective brother, and hero to all.”There is a paddle out for Meek on Saturday morning. Make a Plan Survivors of the 2007 Cedar Fire had just minutes to escape flames right at their doors, leaving belongings behind. Experts say you should have items to get through three days independently, along with the family heirlooms you can’t replace. Creating a plan also involves a discussion with your family. In a message posted on County News Center Thursday, the county urged people to prepare “for a potential outbreak” of the virus. “It’s important for everyone to educate themselves and their family and be prepared in case the new coronavirus makes its way to San Diego County,” said Chairman Greg Cox, County Board of Supervisors. “It’s also important for people not to panic as the risk for this new virus and the disease that it causes continues to be low.”RELATED: San Diego County AT&T store worker's initial coronavirus test comes back positiveBelow is list of what health officials say you can do to prepare: Store a two-week supply of food, beverages and water, including food for family pets. Ensure an adequate supply of prescribed and routine medications are on hand.Plan ways to care for those who are at greater risk for serious complications and who will take care of sick family members.If you have family members with increased risk of getting seriously sick, check with your medical providers about symptoms and treatment.Create an emergency contact list of family and friends, teachers and employers.Have a plan in case your school, child care, or employer closes temporarily.Talk with your children, family, and friends about what to do if an outbreak occurs and what each person would need.Those who own businesses can also take steps to prepare for the virus, the county says.
