(KGTV) - The daughter of PGA star Phil Mickelson will make her acting debut in a movie partially shot in San Diego.Sophia Mickelson has a featured role in Ruta Madre, a coming of age story about a singer who discovers his family and roots on a road trip through Baja.According to the movie's website, Ruta Madre deals with issues of self-identity in a bi-national region."It reflects the feeling of many Latinos, especially Mexicans, who have emigrated or were born here, but who have not they feel neither from here nor from there,” director and screenwriter Agustín Casta?eda said in a 2016 interview.Mickelson plays "Daisy," the lead character's childhood crush. "Having strong roots in the SD community as well made me want to revisit those kind of family connections and place more value on it."Mickelson's family is well known in San Diego. He's arguably, San Diego's favorite golfer.Sophia hopes the city will embrace her film career the same with people here have rallied around her father. But she says her parents have done a great job of supporting her dreams while not putting any pressure on her."I think they're very supportive of me having my own path and not having to do anything in line with what they've done," she says. (KGTV) — The U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner, Kevin McAleenan, was nearly clobbered with a large rock Friday night.According to CBP, McAleenan was taking a tour of the border defenses added to the wall along Friendship Park. (AP) -- A California man has been charged with poisoning eight homeless people with an incredibly spicy resin derived from chili peppers so that he could videotape their reactions.Authorities in Southern California's Orange County say 38-year-old William Robert Cable fed the victims food laced with oleoresin capsicum, which is twice as strong as pepper spray used by police.The victims suffered seizure-like symptoms, difficulty breathing, vomiting and intense mouth and stomach pain. Some had to be hospitalized.Cable was arrested last month in Huntington Beach and prosecutors announced Thursday that he's been charged with nine felonies and various misdemeanor counts.Cable is being held in jail on 0,000 bail. 751

Governor Gavin Newsom announced the decision Friday after the number of COVID-19 infections continues to rise.Former San Diegan, Bob Diaz, has called the small city of Imperial, 'home' since 1998. He says he loves desert landscapes, and the relatively quick drive to visit his family in San Diego. Since the quarantine began in March, he has not seen them at all."I wish I could," Diaz said. "There are so many parks, the beach, the downtown, the Embarcadero, places that I love to go. But you know what? It's not worth the gamble."The 66-year-old says because of his age, he is taking the lockdown seriously."I knew that the numbers were looking pretty ugly," Diaz said.Friday, Governor Newsom and state officials mentioned Imperial County's data in a press conference."I noted a positivity rate over a 14-day period in the state of California at 5.3 percent.
