SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Feeling overwhelmed by bills? 10News is exploring solutions for making it in San Diego and found there may be a way around the mountain of debt.A recent study by Lendedu suggests companies are open to allowing consumers to negotiate their bills. Using data provided by the company Truebill, Lendedu analyzed which companies tend to be more generous in negotiating with customers.Satellite service providers were analyzed in the report. Customers of SiriusXM had the highest success rate in negotiations, according to Lendedu. Consumers had negotiation success rates in the 80s with three other companies, Suddenlink, Centurylink, and Dish Network, the report showed.The study went on to note, “When it came to how much companies actually knocked off the average customer’s bill, SiriusXM once again led the way; the average SiriusXM customer was able to decrease that monthly charge by 40 percent or more. Immediately behind SiriusXM was CenturyLink, ADT Security, and DirectTV, who all fell into the 25 to 29 percent range in terms of the percentage the bill was decreased by post-negotiations.”RELATED: Making it in San Diego: How to deal with large medical bills"They're looking at who you are as a consumer," said Steven Osinski, a sales and direct marketing professor at San Diego State University. Osinski says the way businesses make their money, especially when it comes to services, is through recurring revenue. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Homeowners in Logan Heights say people are living in RVs parked on their street, leaving behind trash and at times, even dumping human waste. The piles of trash on Logan Avenue include bags, clothes, and paint or plastic food containers. Some of the RV trailers even have cobwebs. A city ordinance says cars are not allowed to park continuously on any public roadway for more than 72 hours. Homeowners say the vehicles are sometimes ticketed and moved for a few days before they come back. In June, the city opened a safe parking lot in Misison Valley for people living out of their RVs. Neighbors say the issue has been reported to the city's Get It Done app multiple times and they've even reached out to their council member, Vivian Moreno.10News reached out to Moreno's office, and a spokesperson said they've reported the issue to the San Diego Police Department. The spokesperson added that they would continue to report any complaints and violations to the appropriate authorities. 1017

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Father Joe's Villages hosted two Thanksgiving meal services Wednesday for homeless residents in San Diego, but perhaps no one was more thankful than the people who helped prepare the food.Three chefs-in-training in the Father Joe’s Culinary Arts Program spent days preparing the turkey dinner, which was served to an estimated 2,300 to 2,600 people.“They changed my life by far,” student Brian Anziano said of Father Joe’s.Anziano said he got involved in “stupid stuff” last year that left him homeless, but at the suggestion of friend, he began turning his life around with the help of Father Joe’s.Anziano enrolled in the 15-week culinary course, considered the most rigorous of the 10 workforce development programs offered by Father Joe’s.“They buy your shoes, they buy your pants, they buy your uniform,” he said. “Everything you need.”The massive Thanksgiving meal is kind of like a midterm, said Culinary Arts Program instructor chef Theresa Fields.“We work 14 hour days, 16 hour days. We’re always on call,” said student Lister Lane with a smile.Lane said his dream is to graduate and open his own restaurant. “And I want to give back to the homeless like they helped me,” he said.Past graduates have gone from these kitchens to jobs at Kansas City Barbeque, PETCO Park, the Hard Rock Hotel, Amplified Ale Works and more, FIelds said.Father Joe’s said about 80 students have graduated from its various workforce training programs so far, and they’re on pace to graduate about 100 students by the end of the year.
