CENTENNIAL, Colo. — The holiday shopping season is here. And, if we're going to be stuck inside our homes, we might as well make it fun.Get the family together for the newest competitive indoor game, created right here in Colorado.You're in good company this week with Shuffle Golf, which was developed in Centennial and is now available through Walmart's website.Just as the name suggests, it's a combination of shuffleboard and miniature golf."When people start playing, they realize how challenging the game is," said Jeff Storey, the founder of parent company i-Play. "But, the rules are so simple on how to learn."Prior to the pandemic, i-Play created interactive games for kids."We have these floor projection games, table projection games, that are all interactive," Storey said.But seeing a need for more at-home entertainment, and noticing a gap in the golf game market, Storey and his team entered Shuffle Golf into Walmart's Open Call for U.S.-manufactured products.It's an effort by the retail giant to inject millions into America's small businesses. Shuffle Golf won distribution out of 5,000 submissions."The buyer recognized the concept is cool," Storey said. "It's different. It's a quality game. It's made in America. And, that's exactly what Walmart is doing today."The game uses a vibrant carpet mat, which allows for two-way putting, has various scoring sections around the green, and includes negative scores for sand and water hazards. And, you can knock your opponents' ball off the course."It's a great educational tool for math for young kids," Storey said. "And, parents now are having to teach their kids and home school and so forth."But, Storey said the game is great for all ages and all skill levels. And, it can get competitive.It's teeing up the fun, just in time for the holidays."Now, (families) have a new game to play, outside your Bocce Ball, or Monopoly, or all these different traditional games," Storey said. (KGTV) - A border watch group says there are glaring holes along the border that can be plugged with the help of troops.The Department of Defense sent thousands of troops across the border to areas like the San Ysidro Port of Entry. “I don’t know all the intelligence, but it seems like (the troops) are all in the areas where the fence is pretty secure,” said Dan Russell with the Minutemen. The Minutemen is a citizen’s group dedicated to watching the border for illegal crossings. If they see any, they report them to border patrol. “Maybe they’re expecting thousands to show up in Tijuana or Tecate, but if they’re there in large numbers all they have to do is get on a bus, take the highway, drive an hour, and come over a wide open border,” Russell said.Russell says his group volunteers to watch the mile of the border just southwest of Campo. In that mile stretch, there are about five gaps along the border wall.“About every quarter mile, you’d want some eyes on the border,” he said. 1045

CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) - The owner of Lhooq Books is hoping the community can help him out, after being served with a 60-day notice to vacate.Sean Christopher has owned and run Lhooq Books on Carlsbad Village Drive for a decade. His book store specializes in rare books. It also features a public library outside, where people can either buy books for a donation or borrow them. It also hosts small public art events.But all of it is at risk.Christopher says he contacted his leasing company, Pacific Coast Commercial, in September to ask about the state of his rental agreement. Instead of getting answers, he says they served him with a notice to vacate."It was a complete and utter shock," says Christopher. "There was not even a hint that anything was wrong."In addition to being forced to leave his store, Christopher says he's also been told to leave his home, which he rents from the same company. The store and home are both on the same plot of land.Christopher says part of the shock came because of all the work he's done on the property. He estimates that he's spent thousands of dollars to clean up the home and renovate the store."I've basically replaced, repaired or deep cleaned absolutely every inch of the property," he says.He also says he had an agreement with the owner to do more work over the next few months to add a new entrance to the book store and a new storage shed in the home's yard.Now, he's confused why the owner would make that agreement and then force him out.Christopher says there's no way he can uproot his life, family and business in under two months."To find a suitable retail store, and a home, and then pay security deposits and first and last month's rent on both, while continuing to pay rent here, it's literally impossible," says Christopher.When he reached out for a follow-up with the rental company, Christopher says they told him their decision was "just business."They also told him to stop calling, or he'd be given a 3-day eviction notice.Now he wants to fight back. Christopher says he understand's the owner's rights to end his lease, but he hired a lawyer to try and get an extension."I'm not being unreasonable," he says. "I'm just trying to get a compromise, a resolution so that I can relocate without maxing out my credit cards or going bankrupt and possibly homeless."To help pay legal fees, Christopher has set up aGoFundMe account.
