When he awakened, instead of just getting out and be stranded in the middle of no where, he decided to keep going."I just woke up," Bachman told NJ.com. "And I'm thinking, 'Why the f--- am I in the car next to some random a** dude I don't even know?"Besides the accidental 300-mile trip, Bachman had to pay extra because he had mistakenly requested an UberXL, and it was surge pricing. Had it not been surge pricing, Bachman would have paid just 9.14, NJ.com reported. Bachman told NJ.com that his driver did not have money to pay for the unexpected tollbooths, so Bachman stopped at a CVS ATM to give the driver cash to use for tolls on the return trip.Although Bachman gave the driver 5 Stars, he protested the charge to Uber, claiming he never put his home address in New Jersey into the app. Uber told NJ.com that the dispute has been resolved, and that Bachman agreed to pay the fare.  1419

KEARNY MESA (KGTV): A San Diego surfer is making a name for himself on the Professional Big Wave World Tour. He's now using his newfound fame to help kids in Southern California hospitals.Jo Jo Roper is in his first year on tour. Just before Thanksgiving, he shredded a 60-foot wave in Portugal."That feeling, it's hard to describe," Roper says of surfing waves that big. "Sometimes you black out, to be honest, you don't even remember what happened."Roper says he remembers everything from the wave this week. It was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream and years of preparation."It's really difficult," he says. "So when you line one up, it's that much more rewarding to kick out a wave."Roper comes from a family of pro surfers. His dad, Joe Roper, surfed professionally in the '70s and '80s. He stopped when he had kids, and says it's a thrill to watch Jo Jo pick up the family mantle."He's taken it to another level," says Joe Roper. "I'm so proud of him."Jo Jo is giving his parents a lot to be proud of outside of surfing. He's starting working with City of Hope Hospital in Los Angeles. It helps treat kids with cancer. "These kids are stronger than anything I've ever done," he says. "What they go through is on a whole other level of what's amazing. I'm just trying to bring some joy to them."Jo Jo has the kids decorate his surfboards with their handprints and signatures. He looks at them for inspiration when he's riding the big waves."It's very heartwarming for me," he says. "It gives me a bigger purpose when I'm sitting in the line-up. I look down and have all these kids on my side. It's awesome."Jo Jo will auction off the boards he uses on the pro tour later this year. The money will go to City of Hope. (KGTV) - The Granite Lion Cellars in Jamul will break ground Wednesday on a new tasting room and wine cave, adding to their expanding vineyard and winery in the East County."We've been waiting for this for quite a while," says Tasting Room Manager Miriam Valdez. "I"m over the moon that it's finally happening."The multi-million dollar expansion will help Granite Lion deal with the increase of customers they've seen over the past year. Sommelier David Whited says they've gone from about ten visitors each week to 150.It's an excellent problem to have, and one that is spreading up and down Highway 94. There are now six wineries between Jamul and Campo, forming their own East County Wine Region.RELATED: New tasting room highlights wineries along Highway 94"You don't have to go all the way to Temecula or Escondido," says Whited. "You can do it here, 20 minutes from downtown."The new wine cave and tasting room are the latest sign that the region is gaining in popularity. The first tasting room in the area opened in 2014. Since then, wines along the 94 have won several awards and are starting to pull customers away from Temecula, Ramona and even Baja."As word gets out, people are coming here," says Whited."You arrive, and it's quiet," says Valdez. "It's away from the busy hustle and bustle of the city. You can enjoy nature. You can find a place here to rejuvenate and relax."The San Diego County Vinters Association says there are 116 wineries across the county. A recent report showed they have a million economic impact every year.Whited says the geography in the East County allows vineyards to grow more flavorful grapes commonly found in Europe."There are two mountain ranges that filter in the marine climate into the valley here which sets us apart from anywhere else in San Diego," he says.County Supervisor Diane Jacob is expected to attend Wednesday's event.
