CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) — One man has been arrested and another person is dead following a North County apartment complex shooting earlier this month.A verbal dispute in the 5100 block of Whitman Way on Aug. 4 erupted into a triple shooting just before 6 a.m., according to Carlsbad Police. The suspected gunman, Jonathan Wilburn, of Carlsbad, reportedly retrieved a firearm at a family gathering and shot two people, in addition to accidentally shooting himself.One victim received non-life threatening injuries while the other was in critical condition. (KGTV) -- A man was arrested after reportedly assaulting two Border Patrol agents as they attempted to arrest him for trying to smuggle people into the U.S. According to the agency, the incident happened around 1:17 a.m. Tuesday as agents patrolled Interstate 8 in Campo. Agents tried to stop a 2007 Ford F-350 near Kitchen Creek Road when the driver took off, leading agents on a high-speed chase. RELATED: 14-year-old tried to smuggle meth strapped to body, CBP saysAccording to Border Patrol, agents successfully deployed a tire deflation device, forcing the vehicle to stop a short distance later, but the driver got out and fled on foot. As agents searched for man, he reportedly jumped out of a nearby bush, tackling one of the officers to the ground. A second agent also responded to the scene, struggling with the suspect as well. Inside the F-350, agents found three men and one woman, all Mexican nationals in the U.S. illegally. They were all taken to a Border Patrol station for processing and the suspect, identified as a 37-year-old U.S. citizen, was arrested. (KGTV) - The first woman on the West Coast to graduate from the Howitzer Section Chief course is stationed at Camp Pendleton.The Howitzer is the largest land gun in the Marine Corps. As the section chief, Corporal Julianna Yakovac is in charge of the unit firing the gun.Yakovac broke the glass ceiling in February, graduating on Valentine's Day. Just a few days before that she turned 21. "She's the right person, in the right place, at the right time for this job," Lt. Col. Kenneth del Mazo, Commanding Officer of 1st Battalion, 11th Marines at Camp Pendleton, said she's the best fit for the job.RELATED: Marines hold largest exercise in Camp Pendleton history"She has earned her position 100 percent," he said he wouldn't send anyone through the course, which he added was a notoriously difficult course, unless they were ready.The Marine Corps opened up ground combat positions to women in 2016.Yakovac didn't even know it was a newly available position for her.Once she graduated, she was thrilled to meet her unit and get to work, saying it's important to be prepared.
