SAN DIEGO (KGTV)— With the start of summer just days away, San Diego Gas and Electric (SDGE) is encouraging customers to take advantage of free programs that could potentially save a significant amount on their energy bills. 10News has reported on dozens of stories in which customers are outraged by unexpectedly high bills and surprise “High-Usage” fees. But SDGE says it does not have to be this way if customers switch to the “Level Pay” Option. “This is a really great way to avoid the high spike on your bill, let’s say in July or August,” SDGE Spokesman, Wes Jones said. For the “Level Pay” option, SDGE takes the average of the last 12 monthly bills and charges the customer the same amount for the next three months. This means there are no surprises during the summer months. “You are tapping into those months where you didn’t run your AC in February, so your bill is lower,” Jones said. “So this is a great solution for that type of customer that has that volatility throughout the year.”SDGE says another free money-saving option is to switch to the “Time-Of-Use” Plan. As long as the customer keeps track of when they use power, they can save money. Standard Summer Pricing:Tier 1: 0-130% use of baseline: SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Facebook threatened to block Australian publishers and individuals from sharing news stories on its platform in reaction to an Australian measure that would require it to compensate media organizations for its use of their stories. The social network said the move would force it to pay arbitrary and theoretically unlimited sums for information that makes up only a small fraction of its service.Google has cast the proposed Australian law as a potential threat to individual privacy and a burden that would degrade the quality of its search and YouTube video services, but did not threaten a cutoff.Australia's government hopes the legislation will be passed this year. 699.29 per kWhTier 2: 133-399% use of baseline: SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — California voters approved a measure Tuesday requiring all eggs sold in the state come from cage-free hens by 2022.Proposition 12 led with 59 percent of the vote with nearly 4 million ballots counted.Supporters say the measure is a step toward more humane farming practices, while opponents say it doesn't go far enough. The measure sets new minimum requirements on the sizes of pens that farmers use to house breeding pigs and calves raised for veal, and it bans sales in California of products from hens, calves and pigs raised in other states that do not meet California's standards.Dubbed the Prevention of Cruelty to Farm Animals Act, Proposition 12 builds on an earlier ballot measure, Proposition 2, that passed in 2008 and banned keeping hens, calves and pigs in tiny cages so cramped they couldn't stand up, lie down or turn around. That measure took effect in 2015 but lacked specific size requirements and did not apply to out-of-state farmers whose products were sold in California.Proposition 12 specifies how much floor space farmers need to give each animal. The measure was sponsored and financed by the Humane Society of the United States, which also backed Proposition 2 and says the upgrade will strengthen the earlier measure and restore California as a leader in the ethical treatment of farm animals.A decade ago, Proposition 2 was the furthest-reaching law for farm animals in the country. Since then a dozen states have banned or restricted confinement for at least one farm animal. Massachusetts passed a comprehensive measure in 2016 that is similar to Proposition 12.The measure had the support of several animal welfare groups, including the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Sierra Club and Center for Food Safety, and a variety of veterinarians and religious organizations. It requires that, starting in 2020, calves confined for production have at least 43 square feet (4 square meters) of usable floor space, while breeding pigs be given at least 24 square feet (2.2 square meters) of floor space in their pens starting in 2022.RELATED CONTENT 2125.39 per kWh*“High-Use” Charge: 400%+ use of baseline: SAN DIEGO (KGTV)-- Star Trek fans got the surprise of a lifetime at Comic-Con Hall H Saturday, as many A-List stars made unannounced appearances. Among them were Sir Patrick Stewart, Brent Spiner, Jonathan Del Arco and Jeri Ryan.Fifty years to the day after the first moon landing, Trekkers got an intergalactic treat at San Diego Comic-Con. At the panel, fans got to see a sneak preview of "Star Trek: Discovery The Third Season" and the new animated series "Star Trek: Below Deck". The biggest applause came when Sir Patrick Stewart, who plays Captain Jean-Luc Picard appeared on stage. Stwart returns to the franchise in the new series, "Star Trek: Picard," a story about the Captain after "Star Trek: Next Generation"."I knew that something very unusual was going to happen, and I wanted to be a part of it," Stewart said. Fans were near tears and more than grateful to see his reprisal of the iconic role."It sounds like he rejected a lot of scripts before he was like, 'Yes this is something that I would like to be involved in," Star Trek fan, Monica Marion said.Fans also got to meet the show's new faces, including Alison Pill, Michelle Hurd, Evan Evagora, Isa Briones, Santiago Cabrera and Harry Treadaway. Then came the three surprise guests: Brent Spiner, Jonathan Del Arco, and Jeri Ryan. The three are also reprising their roles from "Star Trek: Next Generation" for "Star Trek: Picard"."We haven't seen Data in 15 years or so except in reruns, so it's like oh my God my old friend!" Star Trek fan, Dale Bankhead said."The possibility of standing next to Patrick on a set again was more than what I could say no to," Brent Spiner, who plays "Lt. Commander Data," said. Some lucky fans even got to meet the living legend at an autograph signing. "He is absolutely amazing. He is so iconic. He is an amazing actor and an amazing person!" Star Trek fan, Monique Vapnik said. "He's really humble and has a really cool vibe about him," Star Trek, Ammar Abbas said. Stewart left the crowd with a line from the new show- a poignant reminder of the 79-year old's prolific career."'We never know, do we? When our last moment will be.' For me, I can twist that a little and say, 'We never know, do we? When our BEST moment will be,' and that is now!" 2261.55 per kWhTime-Of-Use Summer Pricing: On Peak: 4pm-9pm Tier 1: 0-130% use of baseline: SAN DIEGO (KGTV)-- Flags are being flown at half-staff around the country today to honor fallen firefighters and to promote emergency preparedness. Sunday is also the kick-off of National Fire Prevention Week.Cher Smith's home in Crest has a 360-degree view of nature. It's beautiful to look at, but dangerous during fire season. "Somebody is throwing a cigarette out, sparks from a car, whatever," Smith said. "There's always that fear that something is all of a sudden going to cause a fire to get out of control."In the last month, she and her son-in-law spent hours clearing up the dead brush on her 2.5 acre property. "We just barely made a dent on what needed to be done," Smith said. Smith said she couldn't afford to pay a landscaper to finish the job, but that all changed when she looked out her window earlier this week. "They are all up there like ants on the mountain bringing down the brush," Smith said. She saw CALFIRE and inmate fire crews working earnestly, with shovels in hand, to create a safe, defensible space. The space won't just create a defensible space for Smith's home, but for the entire Crest community. "I said, 'You have no idea how jazzed I am that you guys are doing this for us!'" Smith said enthusiastically. That's because just last month, she watched the Dehesa fire, creeping up toward her home. Also, back in 2003, her son-in-law lost his childhood home to a wildfire."A lot of people in Crest had their homes burned, so I think people are on high alert and sensitive to the dangers," Smith said. That's why to kick off National Fire Prevention Week, she wants to thank the fire service for their hard work. She also wants to remind her East County neighbors to be prepared. "I like to see our tax dollars going to being proactive, rather than having them create these fire barriers after the fact," Smith said. 1861.46 per kWhTier 2: 133-399% use of baseline: <云转化_句子>.57 per kWhOff-Peak Hours: 6am-4pm AND 9pm-midnightTier 1: 0-130% use of baseline: <云转化_句子>.24 per kWhTier 2: 133-399% use of baseline: <云转化_句子>.35 per kWhSuper Off-Peak Hours: Midnight-6am Tier 1: 0-130% use of baseline: <云转化_句子>.19 per kWhTier 2: 133-399% use of baseline: <云转化_句子>.30 per kWhTime-Of-Use Pricing does not have the *“High-Use” Charge tier. SDGE recommends customers to take advantage of this to pre-cool their home during off-peak hours. “At noon, 1 pm, or 2 pm, crank up that AC,” Jones said. “Get that house nice and cool. And as it gets later in the day, adjust that thermostat.”If you use an AC, remember to change out your AC filter. That makes your machine run much more efficiently. And if you want to save even more money, try using the fan. “That is going to be about seven times cheaper than running a room AC unit,” Jones said. “So if you can stand using a fan for a few hours here and there as opposed to that room AC you’re going to save some money on your bill.”When all else fails, remember to get back to basics. Simple things like checking for window and door seals, and rolling down your sun shades can make a big difference. Customers can change their settings to the “Level Pay” Option and “Time-Of-Use” plan at any time for free at SDGE.com/LPP. 2734
