More than a year ago, Brie Way enrolled her son at Intelli Children, both a daycare and preschool."It's not just a place. It's a home for kids," said Way.The home for more than 70 kids could soon be closing its doors."I feel sad for the children, parents and staff," said Carol Wilson, owner and director of Intelli Chidren.Ceiling stains in many of the classrooms mark the problem. Wilson says the leaky roof she noticed when she moved in eight years ago turned into big problem with this winter's rains, when several floods for them to cause of several occasions. According to Wilson, walls had to be cut out in most of the classrooms. Wilson says after the landlord declined the necessary repairs, she paid for the repairs so she could stay open. She then stopped paying rent early this year."The business was not viable anymore," said Wilson.She says negotiations stalled when her landlord declined a permanent fix and told her she had to close the school in early August. For Way, a single mom, panic is setting in. Affordable, quality child care is hard to find and she fears she'll be in the same boat she was a year ago."I called from Escondido to Oceanside, and found myself on 30 waiting lists ... It needs to stay open. There aren't a lot of good schools like this in the area. It would devastate the community I believe," said Wilson. The landlord declined comment, contending 'eight months of back rent' are still owed him. Wilson says it's closer to five months and she's willing to pay it if the repairs are done.Wilson says she and her husband are at retirement age and would not be opening the school at a new location. 10news has learned someone has stepped forward and expressed interested in taking over the school. With gyms across the country closing their doors during the COVID-19 crisis, many members are starting to feel the itch to exercise.“There’s a hole in my day now,” said mechanical engineer Scott Noble.To help fill that athletic void, Noble’s go-to gym, the YMCA is now offering dozens of virtual fitness classes for free.“Having it on your phone makes it possible no matter where you are,” said Caitlin Stackpool, YMCA Director of Community-Integrated Health. “So, for people who are starting to feel cooped up, this is going to give them another option to be active at home.”Stackpool is the Y’s director of community integrated health, and she also holds a Masters Degree in exercise science. Her focus is usually on face-to-face fitness; however, following the coronavirus shutdown -- she’s working on new ways to keep members moving during this time of self-isolation and social distancing.“Since we know that our members in the community are stuck inside, we wanted to make sure we had virtual options available,” she said. “So, we have Y360, which is fitness classes online led by YMCA instructors.”With more than 3,000 YMCAs across the country and tens of thousands of members, these kinds of online classes are helping people find their flow.Now other fitness experts are catching on. Personal trainer and group exercise instructor Josh Gamble (@joshgamblefitness) has been helping people improve their health for the past 15 years.When his gym in Nashville closed for coronavirus concerns, he took his classes online, providing live streaming workouts for his clients on YouTube.“In a sense, some of them are stuck at home,” Gamble said. “This gives them the chance to do something different and interact with people in a sense even though they’re not physically there, and they’re doing live.”Each day gamble focuses on different muscle groups, says no equipment is needed and that people don’t need more space than a yoga mat for a good workout.“Everyone was starting to panic when they found out we were going to have to close down, and they were nervous,” Gamble said. “It makes me feel great that so many people seem to enjoy.For people like Noble, these online fitness classes provide movements and motivation to help stay fit while stuck at home.“To have an hour where I’m just lifting weights and working hard and sweating and not thinking about things, it makes a big difference,” Gamble said.Significant differences are physically, mentally, and emotionally.“I’m a lifelong exerciser,” Gamble said. “It makes me happy.” 2550

Workers at a restaurant in Ohio refused to complete a catering order for troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol amid civil unrest over the death of George Floyd. The restaurant chain, Condado Tacos, closed its Columbus-area locations on Tuesday after workers accused the restaurant of firing them for not completing the order. Columbus has had its share of unrest since Thursday night, when protesters broke out the windows to a number of downtown businesses and government buildings.According to the restaurant, one of its restaurants received a catering order that was placed by the Ohio Highway Patrol, with a number of workers refusing to fulfill the order. The restaurant said that management communicated that workers who were uncomfortable with completing the order did not have to work on the order. The restaurant said that a few employees chose not to finish their shifts, and that no one will lose their jobs as a result of Monday’s incident. “Condado was built as a place for everyone, without judgment or fear,” the restaurant said in a statement. “A place where originality and being unique are embraced. We are also a family that cares for and about each other. From the first day we opened our doors, we have included all people as employees and as guests in the Condado world. We want to be clear that we stand against racism – always have and always will.”The decision to close on Tuesday affected six locations.
