SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A well-known San Diego restaurant plans to close for good this July. Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant will close its Mission Valley restaurant on July 16, 2019, according to paperwork filed by the company. Although no reason was given for the closure, 79 employees are expected to lose their jobs. The layoff notice was filed by the company on June 5 and says, in part, that the company will “continue the employment of all employees through the sixtieth day after the date of this notice, and all employees will be paid your regular wages and benefits through that date.”The brewery and restaurant first opened in 1988 in Palo Alto before expanding in 1999. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A woman was taken to the hospital after the car she was riding in -- which was believed to have been stolen -- struck a building and two parked vehicles in the El Cerrito area on Friday morning.San Diego police said the collision happened at around 5:15 a.m. in the 5800 block of El Cajon Boulevard.Witnesses told ABC 10News they saw a silver Honda Accord traveling at a high rate of speed, possibly reaching 100 MPH, when it lost control and collided with a building and parked cars, littering the area with debris and car parts.Responding emergency crews pulled a female from the wreckage and took her to the hospital. Police said the woman suffered a broken hip and deep laceration on the back of her leg.One witness said a man, believed to be the driver, was able to get out of the wrecked car and ran away from the scene. He was described as Black, in his 20s, wearing a black sweater and black pants.According to police, as officers and emergency crews responded to the crash, a man called 911 to report his car that was left running outside of a business on El Cajon Boulevard was stolen.Police told ABC 10News they believe the car in the crash was the same vehicle stolen a few blocks away. 1226

Brenda Kaesler says she first learned about Wreaths Across America (WAA) when she laid her son Jeffrey to rest. "He had the best smile of anyone I've ever seen. He just lit up the room. And of course that's a mother talking, but other people have said the same thing!" said Brenda. Brenda says Jeffrey suffered a traumatic brain injury in Iraq, which lead to a brain aneurysm and his death several years later. "He wanted to help, and after he got out, he said he would go back and do it all over again, just like so many of them do." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Almost 2,000 people gathered in San Diego to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Friday at the 38th annual Human Dignity Award breakfast in Mission Valley. “He fought and gave his life not just for African Americans but for everyone,” said Dee Sanford, this year’s honoree. Sanford stared a telecommunications business in 1994, was an adjunct professor at colleges, and created public access television and radio stations. “You don't do it for honor but when someone remembers and acknowledges your work, it’s really a humbling experience,” she said. My father was part of the civil rights movement. He was our king,” said Sanford. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- An exonerated marine colonel was denied release from the Camp Pendleton brig. Colonel Dan Wilson's release was denied three months after he was exonerated for sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl. In July, an appellate court overturned his conviction. Since then, his family has been awaiting his release. His wife spoke to 10News over the phone just moments after his release was denied. "I was shocked and I burst into tears. This man has been in for two years and 10 months," said Susan Wilson. "If they cant believe their own court of appeals then there's a problem there."His family maintains the system has been unjust from the beginning. "I just feel as though he’s getting a really bad rap by the USMC after 38 years of service and 11 deployments," said Wilson. "It's astounding to me that they pride themselves on ‘Marines take care of their own’. Well, they haven’t taken care of us whatsoever."Col. Wilson was also convicted of unauthorized leave and conduct unbecoming of an officer. He'll stay behind bars while he awaits a re-sentencing for those charges. 1100
