(KGTV) - Surveillance video captured a runaway trailer crashing into a parked SUV in Lakeside before the truck hauling it took off.A few minutes past 7 a.m. on Saturday off Julian Avenue, Melissa Heiner heard the crash."We were in bed and heard a loud big thud. Instantly, a car alarm went off," said Heiner.Heiner and her husband ran out and found their SUV undamaged. It was not the same story next door.RELATED: Family to move out of Point Loma home after latest car crash"Just sickening," said Heiner.Surveillance video from her neighbor's home shows a white pickup truck driving down the street, hauling a long trailer. When it turns right, the trailer becomes unhitched and goes straight into driveway. It spears the front corner of a Toyota 4Runner, as the trailer's load flies off from the collision. The truck briefly pauses before driving off."It's sad to see someone would leave it and not care, just assuming someone else would take of their own problems," said Heiner. There was some minor damage to the front of the home.Heiner says her neighbor was just grateful she had left her other vehicle, usually parked next to the SUV, at work. "She's taking in stride. Just fortunate the damage wasn't worse and no one was hurt," said Heiner.The truck appears to be a newer model pickup, possibly a Dodge. The need is greater than ever and organizations have had to get creative.Even the Salvation Army bell will be different this year.“There are fewer retail locations, people aren’t carrying as much cash as they have in the past, many are now unemployed,” says commissioner Kenneth Hodder, the national commander of the Salvation Army.The organization has been serving those in need since 1865. Now grown to 131 countries and 7,600 centers, almost every ZIP code has a branch. The need this year, the commissioner says, is like a tsunami.“In a typical year, the Salvation Army will serve about 52 million meals, for example. So far this year, we’re well over 110 million meals. The numbers have shot up astronomically,” Hodder said.The organization has provided 1.5 million more nights of shelter in addition to 900,000 instances of emotional and spiritual support.“As eviction moratoriums start to expire, as corporate capabilities to support people with furloughs or reduced hours decline, we’re anticipating a 155 % increase in the number of people coming to the Salvation Army for Christmas assistance,” Hodder said.And, with the coronavirus pandemic, the Salvation Army decided to get creative. That's where things are headed as Nevada has become center stage for a legal showdown.The Trump campaign and the Nevada Republican Party are likely to keep knocking on Nevada courthouse doors as our state is poised to become a pawn in a legal chess game surrounding election results and how votes are counted."The Trump campaign hasn't been shy about sort of foreshadowing this stream of lawsuits," said UNLV associate professor of Political Science Rebecca Gill. "And indeed, they started well before Election Day as well."But in one Nevada case, it appears both sides may have come to an agreement to avoid a court battle.Thursday, a proposed settlement in a pending case before the Nevada Supreme Court.On election night, in a unanimous vote, the state's high court rejected an emergency appeal by the Trump campaign and state Republican party that sought to stop counting mail ballots in Clark County. The appeal was from an earlier loss in a lower court where the GOP raised concerns about observing ballot processing and electronic signature verification, with the implication of potential for fraud."But unfortunately for the Trump campaign, there's really no evidence of widespread voter fraud at all, regardless of what type of voting mechanism is used," said Professor Gill. "Mainly because, among other things, voter fraud is a felony. And the return on investment is very low because you would have to risk a felony in order to have an absolutely small chance of changing any outcome, particularly in a presidential election."The state Supreme Court wouldn't stop the count, but agreed to hear an expedited appeal. Then, Thursday afternoon, the appellants asked for an extra week, citing a pending settlement of the case. That after the Clark County Registrar agreed to make all tables where the ballot duplication process occurs visible to public observers.Once everyone signs off, the appeal will be dismissed.If any issues arise, a decision on how to proceed will come no later than Nov. 11 at 4 p.m.In the meantime, Clark County can continue counting mail ballots. Those postmarked by election day that arrives by Nov. 10 must be counted by Nov. 12.In another lawsuit, the Trump campaign and Nevada GOP sued Clark County to force officials to release records including copies of every registered voter's signature. That likely indicates a potential challenge over signature matches of what's on file versus on the actual ballot.A District Court judge denied that request and said most of the other requested records didn’t have to be produced until Nov. 20, after county officials finish counting votes.Of course, the specter of a recount demand looms large depending on how narrow the margin of votes ultimately is. Recounts are done to confirm accuracy, check for mistakes and settle fraud claims.The most infamous recount in U.S. history was Bush vs. Gore in 2000 in Florida."But I think it's important to remember that what happened in Florida in 2000," explains Professor Gill. " It was a very unusual confluence of events that led to a situation where there was a real technical difficulty with the actual mechanics of voting in Florida. And that was coupled with this extremely small difference in the vote counts."In Nevada, we have no rules that would trigger an automatic recount. The candidate defeated in an initial vote count can ask for a recount if they deposit estimated costs of the effort. And the candidate gets reimbursed if the recount changes the race’s outcome.President Trump has threatened to take his election concerns to the United States Supreme Court."But I think if you couple these wider vote margins with the fact that there isn't this one really solid reason to be concerned with the operation of the electoral system," said Professor Gill. "Then I think that it's probably unlikely that anything that would happen in the courts would have that outcome that the Trump campaign is probably looking for."Legal experts say the way the nation's high court would most likely be brought in, would be to review a specific challenge to ballots in a tight race in a state that could tip the balance in the election.Nevada, with its six electoral votes, could be that state. LAKE PARK, Fla. -- The owners of a bait and tackle store in Florida have been accused of holding two people they suspected of shoplifting at gunpointDaniel Friedman, Eric Friedman and Daniel Friedman, the owners of Just Fishing Tackle and Consignment in Lake Park are charged with robbery with a firearm, false imprisonment, and tampering with evidence.On Aug.16, deputies with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office says it responded to the Just Fishing in reference to a shoplifting complaint.When deputies arrived, one person was laying on the ground surrendering to law enforcement, and one of the business owners was holding a shotgun over another person in the rear of the store.PBSO says the person being held at gunpoint had lacerations and swelling to his face and lacerations to his arms and back.During their investigation, deputies learned that the Friedmans knew the people they accused of shoplifting.The employees told the detective that on Aug. 8, the person being held at gunpoint along with an unidentified man came to Just Fishing and stole a fishing reel worth approximately 0. At no time did the Friedmans or other employees notify law enforcement to report the crime.The detective said that on Aug. 16, Daniel Friedman and his son Eric, called the man about the stolen fishing reel. Both he and another man showed up to the store that afternoon. Upon entering the store, PBSO says Eric Friedman confronted the man about the theft. According to the detective, the man and Daniel Friedman began to fight and Daniel Friedman pulled out a shotgun.PBSO says the two men were held against their will at gunpoint. They later told the detective that they were beaten and forced at gunpoint to hand over their cell phones, ,180 in cash and their wallets.According to PBSO, after learning this information, Daniel Friedman and family then became confrontational with deputies regarding the alleged robbery of the men and the family then denied deputies access to the business.PBSO says the store's surveillance video system was disabled between 2:40 p.m. and 4:36 p.m.Deputies say they believe the DVR was unplugged during this time.According to PBSO, at 2:40 p.m. store employee Marc Kellener is observed walking towards the area where the DVR system is located and then the video ceases recording.The video resumes at 4:35 p.m. with one of the men seen lying on the ground with his hands out to his side in the surrender position and the other man seated in a chair in the rear office portion of the store.Eric Friedman is seen yelling at the seated man and Daniel Friedman is seen standing next to him holding a chrome-colored shotgun. Naomi Friedman is seen on video placing a large sum of cash into a white envelope, then place the envelope into a larger mailing envelope and places it into a desk drawer.PBSO says surveillance footage shows Daniel Friedman grabbing one man by the neck and pushing him back down into the chair.At 4:36 p.m., surveillance video shows Marc Kellener walk into the office and punch one of the men twice in the face.At 4:40 p.m., Daniel Friedman is seen on video striking one of the men in the head with the butt of the shotgun.
