Motorcycle land speed record holder Valerie Thompson survived a 343-mph crash while attempting to break the overall two-wheel record in Australia on Monday, according to Fox News.According to the report, the 49-year-old Thompson was going for the record at the Lake Gairdner World Speed Trials "when something went wrong during her run and the bike fell onto its side, digging a deep trench into the salt flats and spreading wreckage over a mile."Thompson's "Bub 7" motorcycle reportedly lifted off the ground, with its parachutes eventually allowing it to come to a complete stop. Thompson told Fox News that she's "doing OK" and is headed back to Scottsdale to determine what went wrong.Thompson earned the title of world's fastest female motorcycle racer when she topped out at 304.263 mph at the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials in 2016. Known as "America's Queen of Speed," Thompson has won a number of racing awards and was featured in the 2013 documentary "Why We Ride." MISSION BEACH (CNS) - A man robbed a Subway sandwich shop in Mission Beach Saturday afternoon, police said.Police were told a little before 1 p.m. that a man in his 30s had walked into a the Subway on West Mission Bay Drive near Mission Boulevard and threatened the clerk, San Diego Police Officer Sarah Foster said.The man "simulated" having a weapon in his pocked and demanded money, Foster said. The clerk complied and the man left the business on foot. He was last seen heading north away from the store.The suspect was described only as a man in his 30s, according to Foster. A man was wanted in a similar robbery of a Subway last Sunday, though detectives weren't available for comment on whether the two cases were related.The robber in the Sunday case was also described as a man in his 30s and reportedly simulated having a gun in his waistband. That same suspect was wanted for two other robberies of Game Stop stores, one on Sunday and the other on Wednesday, Dec. 19. 987

MILWAUKEE — Jacob Blake is out of the hospital and in a rehabilitation center, his attorney says.Blake was in Froedtert Hospital since Aug. 23, when Kenosha Police Officer Rusten Sheskey fired seven rounds into Blake's back.Blake's attorney declined to say when exactly Blake left the hospital, or how long he is expected to remain at the rehabilitation center. Blake's family said he had been paralyzed from the waist down. It appears his condition has improved somewhat, as he is now recovering in an unidentified rehabilitation center.Blake was initially handcuffed to his hospital bed after the shooting. Police said at the time that the handcuffs were necessary because Blake still had an outstanding warrant on him. After he posted bond and with the help of local lawmakers, the handcuffs were removed, and the police officers guarding his door left.Officer Sheskey has not been charged in the shooting. Sheskey's attorney says the officer believed at the time that Blake may have been trying to drive off with a woman's child.On August 23, Officers were initially called to a domestic incident. There, they attempted to arrest Blake on an outstanding warrant for third degree sexual assault charges. Blake tried to get into his car, when the officer fired his service gun into Blake's back.The shooting quickly became national news as protests erupted in Kenosha and across the U.S.After a few nights of demonstrations in Kenosha, a 17-year-old man opened fire on the crowd, hitting three people. Two people died and the third was taken to the hospital. The teen, Kyle Rittenhouse, was arrested at his home in Illinois and he is now facing extradition to Wisconsin and charges in the shooting deaths. NASA released data on Monday indicating that the polar ice cap around the North Pole shrank to near record-low levels last week following an arctic heat wave.The ice began to melt in earnest as Siberia was an estimated 14 to 18 degrees above normal during the spring.“It was just really warm in the Arctic this year, and the melt seasons have been starting earlier and earlier,” said Nathan Kurtz, a sea ice scientist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. “The earlier the melt season starts, the more ice you generally lose.”The white color of ice causes sunlight to be reflected. But when the ice melts, the ground absorbs more sunlight, which causes the earth to heat up.2020 marked only the second time on record that the minimum sea ice dropped below 1.5 million square miles.“As the sea ice cover extent declines, what we’re seeing is we’re continuing to lose that multiyear ice,” said Mark Serreze, director of National Snow and Ice Data Center. “The ice is shrinking in the summer, but it’s also getting thinner. NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (KGTV) - People who live next to the 8th hole at the National City Golf Course are fed up with damage from errant tee shots."It's a huge problem," says Karen Hovik. She says golf balls have broken three windshields on her car and left countless dents and scratches."I watch people, and they try to swing like Happy Gilmore while they're filming it," she says, noting that golfers take aggressive swings and don't seem to care where their ball lands.A chain link fence lines the property between the golf course and the condo complex. Hovik and her neighbors want the city or the course management company to put up tall nets, similar to the ones near the driving range."It's not just property damage," says Hovik. "Somebody could get really hurt and injured by that." Hovik says she's been hit by golf balls several times while walking near her home.A representative from the golf course told 10News they take the issue very seriously, and they've posted signs along the course telling the golfers they are responsible for any damage done by bad shots. They also say they plan a full safety review of the course this year, and that's one issue that will be addressed.Representatives from the National City Parks and Recreation Department have not returned our calls for comment. 1308
