SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – An Oceanside man was killed Wednesday afternoon after crashing his pickup truck into the back of a big rig on state Route 163 in Linda Vista, the California Highway Patrol said.CHP officials said the crash happened at around 3:40 p.m. on the northbound side of SR-163, just south of Genesee Avenue.According to the CHP, a white Nissan pickup truck was traveling at an unknown speed when it collided with a big rig that was directly in front of it and going at a slower speed.Aerial footage from Sky10 showed the pickup truck wedged under the back of the semi.The pickup’s driver was declared dead at the scene, the CHP said.CHP officials said the big rig’s 50-year-old male driver was not hurt and remained at the scene.Investigators are trying to determine what led to the crash, including if alcohol or drugs were involved.Watch video from the scene below:Major crash on the 163Major crash on the 163A vehicle is trapped beneath a big-rig on northbound SR-163.Posted by 10News – ABC San Diego KGTV on Wednesday, August 5, 202010News will continue to keep you updated as soon as we receive more information. 1135

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An apologetic teenage girl explained how she crashed her mother’s car into her neighbor’s garage in Encanto Friday.13-year-old Akasha Alexander had been taught how to start the BMW in the morning to help her mother. On Friday, the car was parked a big too close to the edge of a steep hill.The girl pulled the clutch and the car took off, crashing through the neighbor’s fence, clipping a water line, and ending up in the garage.“I see the fence go down and i'm like, oh no, and then all I see is boom,” said Alexander.Neighbor Melvin Glover’s daughter and grandchildren are visiting him for Easter. They said the impact shook the Glover home and frightened them all.The car was towed from the home.Alexander said she plans to bake Glover a red velvet cake. 784

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A second suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of an 18-year-old in the Midway District last month.San Diego Police say 19-year-old Armando Alvarado, of San Diego, was arrested on Dec. 12 and charged with the murder of Eduardo Salguero. Police said Salguero had set up a meeting over Snapchat to purchase an item on Nov. 25 when the meet up turned into an armed robbery.When Salguero arrived, the two sellers entered his vehicle. One of the suspects pulled out a firearm and multiple gunshots were fired inside the vehicle. The suspects then fled.Officers arrived to find Salguero behind the wheel of a grey Acura that had collided with a retaining wall behind businesses in the 3600 block of Midway Drive. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Amazon announced Tuesday it will create more than 200 new jobs in San Diego as part of a national expansion of its Tech Hubs.In a news release, company officials said plans are in place to expand offices in San Diego, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, New York, and Phoenix, which would lead to the potential addition of 3,500 new jobs.According to the company, there are more than 70 open tech and corporate roles in the San Diego area.With the addition of new tech and corporate jobs in San Diego, Amazon said it would add more than 40,000 square feet of office space near the UC San Diego campus.Some of the ventures being worked on at Amazon’s San Diego Tech Hub include games via Amazon Game Studios and a project that involves the launch of “Low Earth Orbit” satellites.Igor von Nyssen, Site Lead at the San Diego Tech Hub, said, “Amazon’s continued growth in our San Diego Tech Hub and the creation of these 200 new jobs is a testament to the strong and diverse pool of tech talent in this community. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — After a week of sifting through ashes of the devastating Camp Fire in Northern California, San Diego firefighters are back home tonight. The San Diego Urban Search and Rescue Task Force searched over 1,500 burned structures in the city of Paradise, Calif. Battalion Chief David Gerboth says many did not survive the devastation. Crews were ordered to look for 1- to 5-inch bone fragments of those who might be missing. “We went into a career to save people and we knew going up there that that wasn’t the mission. It was to provide closure for some families,” says Gerboth. The air quality was also a big challenge for firefighters.“There’s a lot of ash, there's a lot of debris. We were constantly wearing respiratory protection," he added.The task force was also away from their loved ones on Thanksgiving. Firefighters say this mission hit home for many of them.“It was definitely a challenge for all of us,” said Brady Holden. “Whatever little problems that you would deal with throughout the day, as you were driving back to the base camp you look around at the devastation, it really put it all into perspective that my problems really aren’t that bad.”The task force had to report all of the structures as clear before leaving. This allowed families to get back to survey the damage and salvage anything they could. 1350
