New York City is hugely expensive. But until March of this year, one woman was lucky enough to occupy a two-bedroom apartment in Greenwich Village -- one of the city's most desirable neighborhoods -- for the astonishing rent of .43 a month.Yes, twenty-eight dollars. That's not a typo.Patricia O'Grady moved to New York in 1955 to pursue a career as an actress. She and three girlfriends found a modest 2-bedroom apartment on the top floor of a four-story, mixed-use commercial building. 498

NEW YORK (AP) — President Donald Trump's niece has followed up her best selling tell-all book with a lawsuit alleging that Trump and two of his siblings cheated her out of tens of millions of dollars. The lawsuit in Manhattan State Supreme Court Thursday sought unspecified compensatory and punitive damages. It alleges that Trump conspired with a sister and a brother to portray themselves to Mary Trump as protectors while they instead took her share of minority interests in the family business."Fraud was not just the family business, it was a way of life," the court documents stated.Mary Trump inherited the interests when her father, Fred Trump Jr., died in 1981."Rather than protect Mary’s interests, they designed and carried out a complex scheme to siphon funds away from her interests, conceal their grift, and deceive her about the true value of what she had inherited," the lawsuit stated.Messages seeking comment were left with the Justice Department, lawyers for Trump, his sister, and a lawyer for his late brother. At a briefing, White House spokesperson Kayleigh McEnany rejected the lawsuit's claims.Mary is seeking more than 0,000 in compensatory damages as well as punitive damages. You can read the full lawsuit below: Trump's niece files suit saying family cheated her of millions by Sarah Dewberry on Scribd 1340

Newly released emails cast doubt on claims by Secretary Ben Carson and his spokesman that he had little or no involvement in the purchase of a ,000 furniture set for his Department of Housing and Urban Development dining room.Emails show Carson and his wife selected the furniture themselves. An August email from a career administration staffer, with the subject line "Secretary's dining room set needed," to Carson's assistant refers to "printouts of the furniture the Secretary and Mrs. Carson picked out." 519

NEW YORK — An Army veteran who just celebrated his 100th birthday won a fight to stay in his Brooklyn home on Tuesday.James Been served in World War II as a radio operator and celebrated his milestone birthday on June 19.Been has lived in a brownstone on Halsey Street in Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood since 1927, and he says the house has been in his family for generations.Been has lived an extraordinary life. During the war, he served in an all-Black regiment known as the Harlem Hell Fighters."I served in the 93rd Division in the South Pacific against the Japanese from 1942 to 1946. Instead of buses, there were buggies going downtown here. It's a wonderful feeling to remember those historic events," Been said.Last year, Been was shocked to find out there was a foreclosure case filed against him.He said he couldn't repay a 0,000 home equity loan he secured in 2006 when he was 84.Belinda Luu, Been's lawyer, works with an organization called Mobilization for Justice. She said it was "wrong" that Been was being forced out of his home."There are so many mostly Black homeowners who have built these communities, like Bed-Stuy, and they are being pushed out," she said.Thankfully for Been, the case against him won't continue. A JPMorgan Chase spokesperson delivered the good news to him on Tuesday."Mr. Been will not be evicted from his home. We are committed to honoring those who have served," the company said. But Councilmember Robert Cornegy of Brooklyn said Been's story represents a much bigger problem for vulnerable seniors."There are hundreds — probably thousands — of people like Been, but they don't want to come forward. They are embarrassed," Cornegy said.Cornegy said he's fighting to keep the money in the city's budget for deed theft prevention and foreclosure prevention to help protect seniors at risk of losing their homes. This story was originally published by Monica Morales on WPIX in New York City. 1956

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. health officials have sparked a wave of confusion after posting guidelines that coronavirus testing is not necessary for people who have been in close contact with infected people. The new guidance was posted earlier this week on the website of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The agency formerly advised testing for close contacts. But on Monday that was changed to say that testing is no longer recommended for symptom-less people who were within 6 feet of an infected person for more than 15 minutes. CDC officials have referred all questions to the agency’s parent organization, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in Washington. 691
