SOLON, Ohio — An Ohio police department is warning of a Netflix email phishing scam that is asking people to update their payment details after one of their officers, who doesn't even have a Netflix account, received the email.The city of Solon, Ohio Police Department put out the warning, saying criminals want you to click the links so that you voluntarily give out your personal information. The links also could install malware on your computer.In a photo, the very real-looking email it asks users to update their payment details, saying the account is on hold."Hi Dear, We're having some trouble with your current billing information. We'll try again, but in the meantime you may want to update your payment details," the email reads, with a link to update the account.Netflix said if you believe you have received a fraudulent email appearing to be from the company, never enter your details, never click on any links and do not reply to it. Someone out there is sitting on a lottery ticket worth more than .5 billion, but has not stepped forward to claim the prize, according to ABC News. On Oct. 23, a single winning ticket was purchased in South Carolina for the largest Mega Millions jackpot in history. The ticket is also the single most valuable lottery ticket in US history. "We have not heard that the winner in South Carolina has come forward," Mega Millions administrator Seth Elkin told ABC News. The winner has 180 days to claim the prize. That means the winning ticket does not have to be claimed until April. If no winner comes forward, each participating state in the Mega Millions game will get back all the money that state contributed to the unclaimed jackpot, the lottery says on its website. The amount of money that goes unclaimed in state lottery programs is quite staggering. Nearly billion went unclaimed during a 12-month period from late 2016 through early 2017, lottery expert Brett Jacobson told CNN. While most of the unclaimed lottery winnings are from smaller prizes, there have been a few notable examples of massive jackpots going unclaimed. The largest known unclaimed lottery ticket was sold in Georgia in 2011 worth million. Elkin told ABC News that it would be prudent for whoever is holding the winning lottery ticket to sign it, keep it somewhere safe and consult a financial advisor before claiming the prize.  1490

Shannon Silver had planned to take her family on a trip from her home in Connecticut to visit relatives in Ohio just before the start of the school year for her two children.But she and her husband reversed course when people traveling from Ohio were added to a list of those who must quarantine for 14 days upon entering Connecticut. That requirement might have meant her 10-year-old son would miss the first day of sixth grade at St. Matthew School in Bristol.“We weren’t going to do that, especially at the beginning of the school year,” Silver said. “Plus, he really didn’t want to miss the last two weeks of summer by having to quarantine.”The family instead went to see other relatives in Colorado, which wasn’t on the list.As states around the country require visitors from areas with high rates of coronavirus infections to quarantine upon arrival, children taking end-of-summer vacations to hot spots are facing the possibility of being forced to skip the start of in-person learning at their schools.More than a dozen states have such travel advisories, including many in the Northeast along with Alaska, Kentucky and Ohio.More than 30 states are on the list issued by Connecticut, New York and New Jersey in an attempt to prevent another surge of COVID-19 in the region, which was among the hardest hit early in the pandemic. As schools in the Northeast prepare to open early next month, officials are urging parents to be mindful of that guidance while planning any Labor Day getaways.In Connecticut, where infection numbers are among the lowest in the country, more than half of schools are planning to open for in-person learning. In New Jersey, Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy said recently he can’t bar people from traveling and hoped they would heed the quarantine advice. New York has been stopping some out-of-state travelers at checkpoints to ensure they are abiding by the quarantine — a move that has come under criticism.Both New York and New Jersey also are holding out hope for many school districts to offer in-person learning this fall, although Murphy recently authorized the state’s more than 600 school districts to implement virtual options.New Jersey’s school reopening plan doesn’t directly address students who are in quarantine when the year begins.Some school districts, like Willingboro, have reminded families to quarantine if they’re returning from states listed on the advisory. Others, like the state’s largest in Newark, don’t directly mention the advisory in their return-to-school plans.Nancy Deering, the ombudsman for Newark’s public schools, said the plan is “fluid” and guidance could be added at some point. She pointed to the fact that teachers and staff must produce a negative test and undergo a symptom screening to return to school in person.But schools will simply have to trust that students who have traveled to hot spots are coming clean and following the rules.Walter Willett, the superintendent of schools in Tolland, Connecticut, said he fears that students might lie, so they can attend in-person classes. His schools are making sure that every class has an online learning option and will try to ensure kids don’t miss a beat if they need to quarantine.“We have to be vigilant in protecting each other and, please, if you are in one of these situations, know that you will be supported. It’s important for the families to know that we have remote learning, online learning for them and that it’s not a permanent thing,” Willett said.Many of the travel restrictions in place are moving targets, complicating planning for families. Last week, for instance, a handful of states were removed — including nearby Rhode Island and the Silvers’ destination of Ohio — and a few more added to the tristate area’s list.Erin McCall, of Avon, Connecticut, said she also was going to postpone a trip to Ohio, before it was removed from the list. She said she now plans to keep her son home this fall anyway because the safety line always seems to be moving.“Everything is put on hold, vacation, going back to school, because everything is changing so rapidly,” she said. “If I had more confidence in the school system and its ability to sterilize everything and make everything safe, then maybe I’d change my plans. (KGTV) - The City Council in Solana Beach wants to make it illegal to sell any kind of flavored tobacco within the city."What we're doing right now is a reaction to what is literally an epidemic," says Councilmember David Zito.He says the Council has seen the numbers from the CDC and other health agencies showing a rise in underage smoking, mostly related to the increase in e-cigarettes. That's why they're taking such a drastic step."This is not a safe thing to do and we need to take these kind of precautions," says Zito.Under the proposed ban, stores in Solana Beach wouldn't be allowed to sell any kind of flavored tobacco. That means menthol cigars, flavored hookah tobacco, flavored cigars, e-cigarettes or anything else that has a "distinguishable tast or aroma or both, other than the taste or aroma of tobacco, imparted by a Tobacco Product or any byproduct produced by the Tobacco Product."Right now, the ban would only affect a small handful of stores in the city. The two gas stations within Solana Beach already limit their sales of flavored products to just menthol. There are a few other convenience stores that sell e-cigarettes and other flavored products. One business owner told 10News they're a top seller.Zito says the move would help educate people about the dangers of flavored tobacco."Part of it is just doing the little bit that we can, part of it is just advocating for what we think the responsible thing is to do and getting the message out." 1504

SPARTA, Tenn. (WTVF) — Tosha Henry, 32, said she was pulled over for a minor traffic violation and strip searched in White County, Tennessee, last year.She said she decided to share her story after seeing an investigation into the deputy that pulled her over.Deputy Brandon Young resigned from the White County Sheriff's Department in July, after the FBI began investigating an arrest in which he ordered his police dog to repeatedly bite an unarmed woman, who was hiding in a closet.The woman who was repeatedly bitten in that arrest, Tonya Qualls, was also pulled over by Brandon Young and strip searched last year.Several attorneys said that officers should get a search warrant before they conduct a strip search on someone pulled over for a traffic violation, and even then the search should be done in private, not on the side of a public road.Both cases raise questions about the policies followed by the White County Sheriff's Department.Tosha Henry will never forget what happened to her and the 30 year old female passenger in her car on October 19, last year."We were humiliated really, and strip searched on the side of a public road in front of God and everybody," Henry said.White County Sheriff's Deputy Brandon Young pulled over Henry and her female passenger for a "non-functional tag light" according to his incident report.Young wrote "I had prior knowledge that both suspects have been involved with drug-related activities in the past and consent to search was asked for and was granted.""Where I'm from, the police, you do what they tell you to do," Henry said.But she said she had no idea how far the search would go, and was surprised when a female corrections officer suddenly showed up on scene."She looked at me and said, 'go ahead and take it off.' I just shook out my shirt and my bra and she said, 'no all the way off,' and I'm looking around. There are five male officers standing around the vehicles," Henry said."We had to pull our pants down and squat and cough, while all these male officers are around and cars are going down the road," Henry continued.Officers found no drugs.But they wrote her passenger a ticket for possession of drug paraphernalia after finding two syringes.The two were then allowed to drive away."I just bawled. I was like, 'did this really just happen? Nobody's going to believe it. Nobody's going to believe it," Henry said.Body cam video shows the search of Tosha Henrty was not isolated.Just nine days earlier, on October 10, 2019, Deputy Brandon Young pulled over a car driven by Tonya Qualls.Qualls asked in the video, "Why did you pull me over?"Brandon Young responded, "Because you rolled the stop sign out on Murphy."Deputy Young then asked Qualls and her male passenger, "Do ya'll care if I just take a quick look and then get ya'll back on your way?"But it was not quick.Young again called a female corrections officer to the scene after finding two prescription pills in the car."Send me a female officer out here on (Highway) 111," Young said on the body cam.We showed the video to Tosha Henry who could not believe the same officers strip searched another woman."That's the same officer and corrections officer," Henry said looking at the body cam video.The female corrections officer reported back to Brandon Young that she found no illegal drugs."I got her ... naked, made her squat and cough and everything. I couldn't find nothing," the officer said."She had two bras on, nothing. I took both of them, the padding the inner lining and everything," the officer added.They finally let Qualls go with a ticket for having a hypodermic needle and two pills without a prescription.Attorney Richard Brooks represents Henry and was disturbed when we showed him the video of the strip search of Tonya Qualls.When asked, "Should they be doing strip searches looking for drugs on the side of the road?" Brooks said,"No, they absolutely shouldn't be doing that. Absolutely not.""That's just totally out of character with what our Bill of Rights is," Brooks added.He said officers must get a warrant to do a strip search, and even then it should be done at the jail - not on a public road.But he said in White County, he has heard they became a common tactic."They are routine if you are a nobody, lower socioeconomic, and they feel they can pick on them," Brooks said.Henry said she had the courage to come forward only after Deputy Brandon Young got in trouble for ordering his dog repeatedly bite a woman in April who as hiding in a closet.It turns out that woman, Qualls, is the same woman Young had strip searched on the side of the road five months earlier.The body cam video from the strip search clearly shows Young and Qualls knew each other.Young asked, "Who's car is this?"Qualls responded, "This is (redacted) new one. I have it until I get my truck fixed."Young said, "I got you. Did ya'll finally kiss and make up?Qualls said, "No."But when Young found Qualls hiding in the closet he ordered his dog to keep biting, and claimed she might have a weapon.She's never been violent in the past, and was unarmed this time.Qualls is now represented by attorneys with Johnson, MacLeod and Gernt.Young resigned from the White County Sheriff's Department in July after the FBI began investigating the arrest.Henry knows the problems are bigger than one officer.She said policy changes inside the entire sheriff's department are needed."I am hoping with me coming forward and getting this out it is going to help the next person," Henry said.White County Sheriff Steve Page did not respond to our requests for comment.This article was written by Ben Hall for WTVF. 5639
