SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — More than 0,000 went missing from New Hope Friendship Baptist Church in 2008 and 2010, according to new Sheriff’s Department investigation report Friday.The investigation was an Internal Affairs probe into Lt. Devera Scott. Scott was also the treasurer for New Hope Friendship Baptist Church during the time the money went missing.The report claims Scott admitted to church officials she took the money. However, the church told investigators they did not want to press charges as Scott had promised the church she would it pay it all back through monthly payments, and a portion of her retirement.The church also told investigators they were in the business of forgiveness and did not want to ruin Scott’s career, according to the documents.Investigators also learned that Scott made the church a beneficiary to a 0,000 life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment insurance policy.The internal investigation became public Friday, following the ruling of a San Diego judge. The decision comes after local media, including 10News, sued to keep police unions from blocking departments from releasing records related to officer misconduct.The San Diego Sheriff's Department was not part of the suit and has been releasing cases pursuant to SB1421, according to sheriff's department Lt. Karen Stubkjaer.Scott retired from the sheriff’s department on March 22, 2013, before the investigation into the missing church money was complete according to the documents. No charges were ever made against Scott.Other court filings suggest Scott might have been facing financial problems at the time.10News reached out to the church for comment. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Nearly two dozen children were hurt over the weekend after a platform collapsed at a San Diego indoor parkour gym.One of the people hurt said her 10-year-old son was one of her rescuers.It was kid’s night out, so most parents dropped their kids off. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On Wednesday, the San Diego Police Department issued a press release in which the Chief reaffirmed his commitment to unbiased policing, months before the anticipated release of a new report about officers stopping people in the field. It comes amid community concern over a different report that suggests that minorities are stopped at higher rates.Over FaceTime on Wednesday, 10News spoke with Chris Burbank, a retired police chief from Utah who is now working with the Center for Policing Equity. It’s a nonprofit that looks at data surrounding police interactions with the community. “We try and reduce the disparity that exists in law enforcement today, throughout the country,” he adds.In September, his team partnered with SDPD to start analyzing the department’s stop data for a new report that should be released in about six months. Wednesday’s press release states in part, “Police Chief David Nisleit [reaffirms] his commitment to reviewing internal operations and making any necessary changes based on the report's findings."Last week, a separate ACLU-commissioned report was released that caused some community concern. According to the ACLU, records from SDPD and the San Diego County Sheriff's Department show a pattern of discriminatory policing against black people and people with disabilities. SDPD has not issued a formal comment on the ACLU-commissioned report. Last week, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department sent 10News the following statement. “The San Diego Sheriff's Department is committed to providing the highest level of public safety in all the neighborhoods we serve. We expect all of our stops, detentions, arrests, and searches to be constitutional and within Sheriff's policy. We regularly meet with community groups which allow us to address concerns and continue to build trust with the citizens of San Diego County. We have just been made aware of a report evaluating policing in San Diego. It would be premature to speak about the findings prior to reading and evaluating the methodology used to reach the conclusions presented in the report. However, at a glance some of the statistics in the report do not correlate with our numbers. For example, the report seems to overstate the rate at which Blacks and Hispanics are stopped within Sheriff's jurisdictions. The numbers in the ACLU report do not appear to be consistent with our data. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On Monday evening, a city official put inspection tags the doors of the Barrio Logan warehouse where a platform collapsed this weekend, injuring 21 minors and a few adults. It happened Saturday night at Vault PK parkour gym on Main Street. A city spokesperson told us there are "definite code violations" and permit issues, but no further details were released. Cal/OSHA was notified of the incident but is not investigating since no workers were injured. Team 10 verified that Vault PK's business license became active in July. He didn't want his name used but said his son sustained injuries to his foot and his wife has a broken foot. There's no word on when she'll be released.The father says he was at the parkour gym a few days before the incident and told us the facility appeared like it didn't meet proper safety standards.Vault PK also operates a facility in Torrance and told Team 10 investigator Jennifer Kastner the gym is closed for inspections. 1719
