BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGTV) — A man accused of boarding a Greyhound bus in San Diego before opening fire and killing one person in the Los Angeles area pleaded not guilty in court.Anthony Devonte Williams, 33, of Capital Heights, Md., pleaded not guilty to one count of first-degree murder and five counts of attempted murder.Williams is accused of opening fire on a bus as it was traveling on Interstate 5 between Los Angeles and Bakersfield on Feb. 3. He reportedly first boarded a bus from San Diego to Los Angeles before boarding another bus in Los Angeles heading to San Francisco.Passengers say Williams was cursing and muttering incoherently before opening fire.The shooting killed 51-year-old Lurbis Elena Vence, of Molino, Colombia, according to KERO., and injured five other people.Other passengers were able to disarm Williams and forced him off the bus. 872

Backpage.com, a popular website used to solicit sex was shut down by the feds this week. In Martin County, Florida, deputies are expecting more women to sell themselves on the street now as a result. As much as Backpage made it easier to buy and sell sex, investigations into the illegal trade would often start there. “Backpage, that was like the hub for us. We usually built a lot of our cases,” MCSO Lt. Jesse Carde told Scripps station WPTV in West Palm Beach in an interview. She took WPTV to where they’ll shift more attention as they expect pimps and prostitutes to do the same. “Not that they ever stopped the operations on the street but obviously we expect a little more for traffic,” she said. Generally the popular days for prostitutes to be out on the streets in Martin County are after payday, Friday and Saturday, but now with Backpage shut down, there could be changes. “People that live in neighborhoods that have in the past tended to be hotspots for prostitution, they’re going to probably see resurgence of it at least until the prostitutes, the sex workers, find a different way to use the internet,” MCSO Sheriff William Snyder said. “I’ll take you by the street where we’ve shut down a couple brothels in the neighborhood,” Carde said. These brothels would market themselves online, but also using old school methods such as business cards promoting a shell business and a wink. “As they’re passing out their cards well it’s ‘not really but come by, we’ll take care of you’ and people in the neighborhood already knew what kind of business it was,” she said. Detecting those will rely more on tips and undercover surveillance.With Backpage down, Lt. As parents are deciding whether to purchase Halloween costumes for their children amid the coronavirus pandemic, one Ohio man is ready to safely welcome trick or treaters to his home.Andrew Beattie has installed a 6-foot chute for candy so he can remain distanced from trick or treaters on Beggars’ Night.Beattie says that the chute will be “touch-free” as children will have the treats drop into their candy bucket without having to come in contact with Beattie. For added safety, Beattie says that he will wear a mask and continually change gloves in order to keep children safe.“I want our youngins to be able to have some sense of normalcy and maybe a little bit of exercise in all this madness, and I've put a LOT of thought into how to do so safely, and I appreciate your concern,” Beattie said in a viral Facebook post published earlier this week.Beattie said the chute is a six-foot long tube of cardboard that is four inches in diameter. He said he was able to install the chute on his porch in 20 minutes.“If this candy chute makes things easier or safer, AND gives those with mobility challenges more of a chance to participate, then what's the harm? Authorities have started the arduous task of trying to retrieve a US missionary feared killed on a remote Indian island, careful not to trigger conflict with the islanders.John Allen Chau was last seen last week when he traveled to the forbidden North Sentinel Island in the Bay of Bengal to try to convert the island's residents to Christianity. The Sentinelese, as they are known, have a decades-long history of repelling outsiders, a fact that is near certain to make the journey to find Chau a treacherous one.Indian authorities along with the fishermen who reported seeing Chau's body last week, went near the island on Friday and Saturday in an effort to figure out how to recover the body."We have mapped the area with the help of these fishermen. We have not spotted the body yet but we roughly know the area where he is believed to be buried," said Dependra Pathak, a top police official in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.Pathak said the group spotted several tribe members carrying bows and arrows and walking around the area where the fishermen said they saw Chau's body being dragged and buried."The mission was done from a distance to avoid any potential conflict with the tribespeople as it's a sensitive zone," he said. "We are discussing with anthropologists and psychologists about the nature of the Sentinelese."Pathak said there are a lot of things to consider before they enter the island, including the psychology of its residents."There are legal requirements as well which we need to keep in mind while carrying out the operation.
