"We love Mysterious Galaxy for the same reasons you do and know that it will survive, will be saved, only because of your continued support."The new location will reside at 3555 Rosecrans Street. The existing staff will also stay on board for the store's next chapter, the owners say."We know the expert team of booksellers is much of what makes Mysterious Galaxy special. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Nearly four thousand kids in San Diego County have tested positive for lead poisoning over the past decade, and more than 130,000 have missed crucial tests, according to a new report from the California State Auditor.State law requires all 1-and-2 year old children on Medi-Cal to get lead testing. The auditor's office says that's not happening.According to the study, 61% of the tests that should have happened since 2009 were missed. In San Diego, that number is 59%. Specifically, kids in San Diego missed 130,657 of the 220,782 tests that should have been administered.Meanwhile, 44,418 kids across the state tested positive for elevated lead levels. In San Diego, 3,395 tested positive.Local doctors say it's problematic because lead poisoning is nearly impossible to detect without proper testing."Unless you screen kids, they are almost always asymptomatic," says Dr. Kenneth Morris, the Medical Director of the Children's Primary Care Medical Group. "You have no idea until you do the routine screening."Dr. Morris says infants are especially prone to ingesting lead, which can cause developmental problems throughout life."They're crawling on the floors, and they're putting their hands in their mouth. It's just that much easier for the lead to get into their system," he says.Morris says access is a problem for many families on Medi-Cal. They go to their doctor's office for routine check-ups and appointments, but can't get to the follow up lab visits for testing."If you have to refer a child out to a laboratory, it becomes that much more challenging. Because then it falls on the family to be able to get to a lab or hospital to get their blood drawn and get the test completed," he says. "That can be a real challenge for under-served families. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man they believe robbed the same San Diego gas station twice in six months.According to police, the first robbery happened at the Chevron on the 3500 block of National Avenue on June 2 at 4 a.m. with the second taking place November 3 at 3:52 a.m.During both robberies, the suspect stole cash and cigarettes, pointing a handgun at the clerk. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 35 to 40-years-old and between 5’6’” and 5’9” tall.During the June robbery the man was wearing blue jeans and a black hooded sweatshirt. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are searching for a suspect they say tried to kidnap a 13-year-old girl on her way home from school.According to police, the victim was walking home on the 700 block of Picador Boulevard near Montgomery Middle School in Otay Mesa West when she noticed she was being followed by a black van.The van pulled up next to the girl and opened the door when the man inside asked the 13-year-old if she wanted a ride home.The suspect then grabbed the victim by the wrist and tried to pull her into the van before she was able to escape and run home.A witness driving by saw the 13-year-old talking with the suspect and made a U-turn before seeing the victim run away.The suspect is described as a white male between 50-60-years-old with glasses, a full beard and a raspy voice. Police say the van had a “J” or a “K” in the plate. 870

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- More than 92,000 people have alleged abuse by the Boy Scouts of America. Monday was the filing deadline for people to filing claims against the organization.Team 10 has been reporting on sexual abuse allegations within the Boy Scouts for years. "He'd come at me at multiple times," former scout Mike told Team 10 in 2019. Mike declined to use his last name. Mike said the Assistant Scoutmaster sexual assaulted him during an overnight trip while he was sleeping. Mike's attorney, Andrew Van Arsdale, now represents around 80 former scouts in sexual abuse cases. He said throughout San Diego County, there are roughly 300 sexual abuse cases."What we're seeing is something on a scale we've never seen in any institutional abuse setting," Van Arsdale said. "It's hard. You picture this man you're talking to as a child and this monster on the other side doing these things to them."The Boy Scouts filed for bankruptcy protection earlier this year, which means the abuse cases will go through the bankruptcy court. The national organization will work to develop a reorganization plan to fund a trust for compensation. The former scouts alleging abuse will have to approve any future plan. "If they can't come up with real money, the survivors would rather see the cease to exist then because they won't allow them to get away with paying them nothing and then just going on as business as usual," Van Arsdale said. In a statement, the Boy Scouts of America apologized to the survivors, saying they "are devastated by the number of lives impacted by past abuse in Scouting and moved by the bravery of those who have come forward.""We are heartbroken that we cannot undo their pain," the statement continued.Van Arsdale said the reorganization plan will likely come early next year. 1806
