A Rikers Island inmate is back in police custody in New York after attempting to escape on Thursday, officials said.Around 12:30 p.m., the detainee climbed a recreation yard fence and ran to the shoreline, Deputy Commissioner of Public Information Peter Thorne said.The detainee was apprehended by K-9 Correction Officers Larry McCardle and Gregory Braska, Correction Officers' Benevolent Association President Elias Husamudeen said."These two brave officers immediately jumped into action to bring the inmate back into custody without any regards for their own safety," Husamudeen said. "We proudly salute them for their bravery and for reminding the public the critical role Correction Officers play every day in maintaining public safety.”Husamudeen is scheduled to speak Thursday afternoon.This is a developing story. A trainer in Florida is back home with his family after hiking the Appalachian Trail to raise awareness for Parkinson’s disease.“I’ve finally done it,” said Ryan Beck, in his final video.It took Beck 160 days, 2,193 miles and 14 states.“It was definitely an adventure,” he said.Raising awareness for Parkinson’s disease has been a life goal for Beck.He trains people diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in his Rock Steady boxing class. One of his clients is his grandfather.“These people need to get moving. One of the first things they do is sit back and they are not exercising, they are not pushing themselves, and this kind of program really encourages that,” said Beck.Beck helps train up to 100 people living with Parkinson’s disease each week.“My granddad was my second client and my longest-running client now,” said Beck.Beck had spent most of his adult life in a completely different profession but says it was his grandfather Bill who inspired him to start helping others.“He got this diagnosis when I was 8 years old so I grew up with it. I didn’t really know how hard he was struggling, I mean it’s just my granddad right? It just made me respect my idol, my hero, that much more,” said Ryan Beck.“I didn’t expect him to do all this. I didn’t expect him to jump in and get so involved. It’s just exciting to watch other people get the same results,” said Bill Beck.Beck’s hike was supposed to involve others dealing with the disease. They had to cancel due to COVID-19 concerns.“I was forced to keep my head down and continue my journey and spread the word about how fitness can really benefit people with the disease,” he said.The pandemic made the hike difficult and lonely. But for Ryan, “quitting was never an option even one the hard days when I didn’t think I could go on.”Seeing his family at the end made it all worth it for him. A metro Detroit restaurant is defending a viral video showing a brawl inside the Asian Corned Beef on Gratiot.An employee told Scripps station WXYZ in Detroit she was scared when things quickly got out of hand but says her boss and general manager did what they had to do.It’s a video that’s been viewed more than a million times. It was taken on a cell phone inside the Asian Corned Beef on Gratiot Saturday night.WXYZ reached out to the customer who shot the video. The customer did not feel safe talking, but we that we could use the video. The customer shared the video in Facebook, saying “Asian corn beef on Gratiot ghetto, the whole staff jumped on one person.”The video appears to show a customer arguing with employees, apparently because something was wrong with his order, before an all out fight breaks out.The district manager said they didn’t want to start fighting with the customer and told him to leave.It’s an incident the company said quickly escalated and they didn’t mean for it to get that far.The company said they told police they didn’t want to file a police report, and say they hope this incident doesn’t put a negative light on the restaurant. 1209

A mysterious metal object has shown up along a northern San Luis Obispo County hiking trail.The monolith on Atascadero’s Pine Mountain has three sides and is 12-feet tall, according to City officials.While when the object was placed there or by who hasn't been revealed, locals say it was a recent addition.Pine Mountain is part of the Atascadero Land Preservation Society (ALPS), which says it doesn't have information on the monolith. Monolith structures are on the minds of many after the discovery of one in Utah last month. It was later removed by an unknown party. 578

A suspicious package targeting billionaire investor and philanthropist George Soros was rendered safe in Bedford, New York on Monday, a law enforcement source told CNN.The Bedford Police say they received a call reporting a suspicious package found in a mailbox. The package appeared to be an explosive device, police said.An employee had opened the parcel. The employee placed the package in a wooded area and called the Bedford Police, according to a news release.The package did not detonate on its own, the law enforcement source said. 547
