DENVER — The deaf community in Colorado has an unusual problem with marijuana.How do you sign "endocannabinoid"?In Dank's Denver dispensary, budtenders are ready to help. But for some, placing an order is more complicated.Larry Littleton is deaf and a certified interpreter, demonstrating the difficulties as he wrote out an order for the person behind the counter."I believe that it's important for a patient to be empowered and when we don't have communication access," said Littleton.Even among other deaf people, American Sign Language isn't up to speed on weed. That's where a Boulder nonprofit, ECS Therapy Center, is stepping in to help create new cannabis-related vocabulary of signs for the deaf community.Regina Nelson is bringing together interpreters and deaf professionals to compile a video glossary."If this is the best sign for marijuana," she said, showing a sign that looks like holding a joint to her mouth, "it's really not appropriate to cannabis and cannabis oil and these other things."Nelson hopes to finish the glossary next year and as it goes into informal use, she says she hopes to eventually petition the Sign Language Academy to add it to the official lexicon.  "As a social scientist, language is what normalizes things and so to help empower the deaf community to develop language around this is what will help normalize medical cannabis use," she said.The group of volunteers is touring grows and dispensaries this week to learn about the industry and hoping to make it more ADA friendly. DENVER – Police are investigating a homicide scene after three adults were found dead Thursday afternoon near a major Denver intersection.Police initially said they were investigating a death at the scene, but later tweeted that they were investigating a homicide involving three adults. A Denver police spokesperson confirmed all three people were dead.A news crew at the scene said police appeared to be searching the bushes near the RTD light rail and bus station. (KGTV) — One person died in a fire that destroyed two trailers and a garage in the unincorporated Escondido area on Saturday.The fire was reported just after 2:30 p.m. in the 9800 block of Rocky Ridge Road at Sage Glen Trail in Deer Springs, according to CAL FIRE San Diego.San Diego Sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene to find fire crews actively trying to douse the flames. The 71-year-old homeowner told deputies he just arrived home from fishing before hearing a loud explosion as he was left the garage.The explosion caused a fire that spread throughout the garage and to some adjacent trailers, deputies say. The blaze destroyed two residential trailers and the detached garage.All residents were account for except man, who was later found dead inside one of the trailers, according to the Sheriff's Department. Data scientist Youyang Gu, who is the creator of a website widely used to monitor the spread of the coronavirus, estimates that the spread of the virus is not quite as prevalent as it was in March and April, but added that the US is unquestionably in the midst of a second wave.Gu's model is among several the CDC uses to come up with official government projections on the spread of the virus.Based on a lack of testing early in the pandemic, Gu’s team estimates that there were around 250,000 new infections of the coronavirus each day in late March and early April. By July 1, that figure dropped in half.But in recent weeks, the spread of the virus has gained steam. Based on Gu’s projections, he estimates there are nearly 200,000 new infections of the virus each day.
