There’s something about spending time in a park that boosts our moods. A new study finds just spending minutes at a park can have a significant impact on our mental health. For Denver, Colorado residents Alice and Dave Gannon, their favorite getaway is their neighborhood park, where they take their grandson, Charlie. “I like the geese,” Alice Gannon says. “I know they're a bit of a problem, but I enjoy the geese and the Magpies and the ducks and the water. We like to go around the lake.” But being at the park isn't so much about what they do, it’s about how it makes them feel. “I often feel more peaceful here,” Dave Gannon says. “Some of the anxiety is relieved it's decompressing.”Researchers at the University of Alabama at Birmingham found that spending just 20 minutes in an urban park can make you happier by improving your overall mental health and well-being. Park-goer Stephen Lewis says he believes it. “One reason for having parks: place to go to get away from stress and stuff, relax,” Lewis says. He's been coming to the for decades to walk his dogs. But researchers found you really don't have to do any exercise physical activity to reap the emotional benefits of being at the park. Tucked away near the Rocky Mountains is a gateway of history. The town of Nederland, Colorado is a place people from all over the world come to see its beauty, and history. The small mountain town is full of restaurants with its aroma filling the air, and the sound of the creek is soothing many people never want to leave. But what draws tourists to this place is the one person that never left. “People come here because they’re curious about the Frozen Dead Guy,” says Anne Taylor, the woman who runs the Nederland visitor center. “The man’s name – we call him Grandpa – Bredo Morstol. His family in Norway believed in cryonics, and when he passed away there, they sent him to a lab in California. And some point in the 90s, his grandson was here and he decided to have him sent here to the property that he had here up on the hill.”According to Taylor, in 1993, Bredo believed in cryonics and the possibility of being brought back to life after the advanced of modern medicine. But one question comes to mind to a lot of tourists: how is this legal?“Well, it’s not legal,” says Taylor. “At that point, there was no ordinance about it, because no one would think of having an ordinance about it. When this all came about, and it had to go to town council, the trustees passed an ordinance. Nobody else can do this, but grandpa got grandfathered in, so he’s still alive.”And year round, there is one man who takes care of Bredo. “Every two weeks, I come up here and bring in the dry ice,” says Brad Wickham, the caretaker of Bredo. “I take care of other needs that might need to be done, like trash off the property or keeping other people off the property.”Bredo is tucked away in a shed on what was his property. The Smithsonian Institution is working to document history as it happens. It's asking ordinary people and organizations to set things aside that will help tell the story of COVID-19.“America will not be the same after this event,” said Alexandra Lord, Chair and Curator of the Medicine and Science Division at the National Museum of American History. Lord says a task force is looking for items that will show the full impact of the coronavirus. They've been in touch with the U.S. Public Health Service to hold onto medical supplies, like ventilators, test kits and masks.Objects from corporations and small businesses can help show the massive economic impact.Curators are even looking into how to document working, learning and spending time together through Zoom calls.“We have access to all sorts of technology that enables us to talk to family and friends, and that's really different from past pandemics,” said Lord. “We really want to mark that in some way.”Right now, curators are just flagging the objects they're interested in. They'll start physically collecting once their offices reopen, but there's no cutoff to stop.“In fact, it's more than probable that 40, 50 years from now, curators at the Smithsonian may find objects in someone's attic that were related to COVID-19 and we may feel at the time, this is a really fabulous object we really want to bring it in to the museum,” said Lord. Some objects will be included in a previously planned exhibit called "In Sickness and in Health." The Raleigh-Durham International Airport says a small plane approaching that airport was lost on radar and the airport was briefly closed while fire and rescue units responded.The airport says in a brief statement on its website that FAA air traffic control notified the airport that the plane was lost on radar about 7:25 p.m. Sunday near a park in the vicinity of the airport. The statement says airport firefighting units immediately were immediately dispatched to the general area, closing the airport for a brief time.The airport statement says only that the plane was a small general aviation aircraft, and didn't say who was aboard. It says search and rescue efforts are underway and the airport has reopened.It didn't give any further details immediately. 775
